His Life

Mr. McCarthy was a native of Langdale, Alabama, a graduate of Valley High School having served as a volunteer with the athletic program including operation of the scoreboard during high school home games. He was also an avid fan of the University of Alabama football team, the Atlanta Falcons and the Atlanta Braves. He was a foreman of the sheet metal shop at the Service Center with West Point Stevens in Valley, Alabama.

 

Mr. McCarthy is survived by his wife of 52 ½ years, Cathleen Moon McCarthy of Lanett, Alabama; his daughter Dana (Joel) Cross of LaGrange, Georgia; his grandsons, Logan and Jordan Eastridge of LaGrange, Georgia; his daughter-in-law Maria (McCarthy) Hasse and son-in-law Tom Hasse; grandchildren, Jacob, Hanna, and Abigail McCarthy all of Foley, Alabama; his brother, Larry (Trisha) McCarthy of Valley, Alabama; his sisters Ann (Richard) Parker and Carol (Drew) Quinton both of Valley, Alabama; his mother-in-law, Fannie H. Moon of West Point, Georgia; his sisters-in-law, Erma Cotton of West Point, Georgia, Linda (Tim) Duffey of LaGrange, Georgia; and Patricia (David) Goodman of Griffin, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews whom he loved very much and they also loved him. Sonny was preceded in death by his son, Chris McCarthy, his father James Claude McCarthy, his mother Rosa McCarthy, his father-in-law Reverend Lem Moon and his brother-in-law Bill Cotton.
