Herbert Goodrick

Herbert Bascum Goodrick, was born to homesteaders Virgil and Nellie Goodrick at Wiley, Colorado on August 21, 1917. As the third of seven children Herbert spent his early childhood in Colorado until the family moved to southwest Missouri then to Ft. Scott, Kansas where he graduated high school in 1935. As an adventurer and lifelong learner Herbert spent time during the early years of The Depression traveling with his good friend Mark. Riding the rails, their travels took them to California then to Wyoming to work in Yellowstone then back to Los Angeles. In 1938 two young sisters came into the cafe in Los Angeles where Herbert was working. The younger sister, Thelma, caught his eye and later that year they married. They settled in Los Angeles to raise their family later moving to Ft. Scott, KS, St. Louis, MO and then Yukon, OK. It was almost 72 years ago that Herbert received his call from God to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Ordained as a minister in the Church of God Independent Holiness in Los Angeles, April 9, 1942, he pastored in Los Angeles, CA, Baden, MO, Fort Scott, KS, Valley Mines, MO, and held numerous revivals during his many years of ministry. Sharing the Gospel of Jesus in the way he lived his life, Herbert continued his ministry to the end of his life with family, friends, neighbors and everyone he met as his congregation. On February 7, 2011 at his home in Yukon, Oklahoma, Herbert stepped into eternity and was welcomed by his Lord and Savior into his new heavenly home. Herbert loved God and he loved his family. He was the devoted husband of Thelma, his wife of 71 years who preceded him in death. Herbert was also a devoted father and is survived by his four children, son Loren and his wife Anita of Elgin, OK; son Herb of Patosi, MO; son Dwight and his wife Dorothy of Bunker Hill, IL and daughter Marcia Womack of Yukon, OK. He was also the loving "Pa Pa" to 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. He will be missed and leave an empty seat at our table but he is Rejoicing today at the Lord's Table. We love you and will never quit spreading the Gospel of Jesus - your calling will be continued! Family will be receiving visitors at Mercer-Adams on Friday February 11 from 6 to 8 PM. The funeral service will be at Mercer-Adams Chapel on Saturday, February 12, at 2PM with burial following at Yukon Cemetery. To share a memory or condolence, visit www.mercer-adams.com
