"Legends say that hummingbirds float free of time, carrying our hopes for love, joy, and celebration. The hummingbird's delicate grace reminds us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has meaning and that laughter is life's sweetest creation."

I read this on a card today, and couldn't help but to think of you.

Love you very much Grandpa!

Herb, I think of you every day. I cherish the memories we had fishing (you taught me all I know) and working together on the cars, yards, and houses. Yesterday, I wore a pair of the overalls you gave me. This time of year they come in handy.

Oh, those days pass so quickly when Bob and Herb and I would spend the day working on cars in the driveway. Then to the beer tapper to refresh ourselves and break out the guitar. What a beautiful way to waste the afternoon.

And each time you think of me,
I know you’ll miss me too;
But when tomorrow starts without me,
Please try to understand,
That and angel came and called my name,
And took me by the hand,
And said my place was ready,
In heaven far above

When Tomorrow Starts Without Me
When tomorrow starts without me, And I’m not there to see,

November 9, 2013
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
All filled with tears for me
I wish so much you wouldn’t cry
The way you did today,
While thinking of the many things,
We didn’t get to say.
I know how much you love me,
As much as I love you,
November 9, 2013
November 9, 2013
And that I’d have to leave behind
All those dearly I love.
But as I turned to walk away,
A tear fell from my eye
For all my life, I’d always thought,
I didn’t want to die.
I had so much to live for,
So much left yet to do,
It seemed almost impossible,
That I was leaving you.
I thought of all the yesterdays,

Happy Birthday Grandpa, I miss you so much and wish i could spend one more day with you, I went fishing yesterday and the only fish i caught was for you. The scenery was beautiful and the lake was calm. I wish you could have been out there with me. I love you

The good ones and the bad,
The thought of all the love we shared,
And all the fun we had.
If I could relive yesterday
Just even for a while,
I’d say good-bye and kiss you
And maybe see you smile.
But then I fully realized
November 9, 2013
November 9, 2013
That this could never be,
For emptiness and memories,
Would take the place of me.
And when I thought of worldly things
I might miss come tomorrow,
I thought of you, and when I did
My heart was filled with sorrow.
But when I walked through heaven’s gates
I felt so much at home

November 9, 2013
You have been so faithful,
So trusting and so true.
Though there were times
You did some things
You knew you shouldn’t do.
But you have been forgiven
And now at last you’re free.
So won’t you come and take my hand
And share my life with me?”

So when tomorrow starts without me,
Don’t think we’re far apart,
For every time you think of me,
I’m right here, in your heart.

When God looked down and smiled at me,
From His great golden throne,
He said, “This is eternity,
And all I’ve promised you.
Today your life on earth is past
But here it starts anew.
I promise no tomorrow,
But today will always last,
And since each day’s the same way,
There’s no longing for the past.

Since I can remember Herb was always part of our annual visits to Ca. I remember his fish fries, him tinkering in his garage, drink a cold one, and swapping stories with my dad and Uncle Ken. Then I was lucky enough to call his daughter Aunt MaryAnn when she married my Uncle Jim. When he moved, he was missed. And when he came back I was excited to have my kids get to know him too!

Herb will be sadly missed by me and many others as well. We shared a bond that cannot be replaced. We shared a lot of great moments together fishing the river as well as sharing each others company. He was more like a father figure to me as well as a great uncle. He was a great asset to the masonic lodge #19 where it was my pleasure to install him. Herb I will always miss you.

From the time we were children we always thought it to be unfair when things were taken from us. I consider myself a man of science and in the science community its said that we are all made up of energy, and energy can not be created or destroyed, only transformed. I believe Herb to be amongst us always and he will be remembered as the honorable man we all knew.

Having Grandpa in my life was truly a blessing. He taught me so much just in these past few years, and I will never forget the times we had together. I was honored to have such a hardworking and passionate Grandfather. I can still he his laugh, and see his smile. There is not a second in the day where I am not thinking about him. You will forever be in my heart grandpa. I love you!!

Uncle Herb would leave a lasting impression on anyone he met until you met him again. This impression was always a good impression. I was able to spend time with him during my younger years as he thought a lot of my mother. Once he went to Ca and I went into the service I was not that fortunate. Him and his sister are togather again and I am sure they are happier. God Blessing to all to in

Uncle Herb was such a very special person to me and everyone he met. He was someone you could talk to about anything. He always had that good fatherly advice to give you when you needed it. I have a lot of wonderful memories of the time that I shared with him. I am so glad that I got to spend some time with him last year. Rest in peace dear Uncle, you are dearly loved and missed.

When Uncle Herb moved to Illinois I got to know him well. Of all the valuable assets Uncle Herb had, I found his honesty, kindness and caring for others to be endless. He loved his children dearly and spoke of each one often when he and I visited. When he returned to CA; we talked on the phone often and share news and memories. I miss him and loved him, but know he is at peace.

Herb was a great friend and will be missed. After leaving Illinois, we talked on the phone often, remembering times fishing at the different places here. I loved to get him laughing and then it was his turn to do the same for me. He was instrumental in keeping the local VFW Post 6871 going during the early 90's, serving as commander. Herb was also a Shriner. Loved him very much.

I can remember when Herb was the first to buy a foreign made truck, my husband was very impressed at the fuel mileage and the uniqueness of the truck, I knew Herb had chanced upon something BIG, and it wouldn't be long until we would do likewise,as did many in America, Although we couldn't pronounce the name of it properly, we were pleased in Herbs progressiveness!

To everything there is a season,a time for every purpose under heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die, A time to weep, and a time to laugh; A time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time of peace. Godliness with great contentment is great gain. (Selected)

Herbie

July 21, 2019

I have fond memories of the little red Datsun truck daddy drove. Evan and I have been looking for a used truck to buy--for all the reasons trucks are good to have. Driving to a friend's house for lunch, I saw a red truck that looked like exactly what we wanted. I felt a little surge of joyful energy and said, out loud, "Thank you, daddy."  On the way home I stopped to call Evan and tell him about the truck.I used FaceTime to show it to him. It was, indeed, exactly what we wanted. It had a manual transmission, but...oh well, I could learn to drive it (she says, hopefully.)   Fast forward. We bought the truck. Now it was time to name it. I liked the idea of naming it after my dad, but in a playful way. He didn't like being called Herbie, but good friends were allowed to do so...specifically our next door neighbor, Dave Arnett.

I was driving to a local antique store/barn to look for a table for our new catio (screened-in patio for cats) and thinking about our truck and its name. I said, "Daddy, if it's okay to name our truck Herbie, please send me a sign."  I wandered around at the antiques barn and found a wonderful wrought iron table for the catio. I decided to make one more loop around the place and walked outside, around the back of the building. As I was doing so, a man was unloading a table and chairs from the back of his truck. The table and chairs had a hummingbird motif. My eyes misted over. The hummingbird is the sign daddy sent right after he died, when I was feeling the deep sadness of separation and loss...hoping he was somewhere but knowing he was no longer here with us. Good sign, daddy. Great sign. The hummingbird table and chairs look great on our lower deck. My first stick shift driving lesson went well. I'm confident that I'll get the hang of it because I have the best co-pilot, ever. Thank you, daddy.

I hope Grandpa brought his fishing rod,

His hat, some bait to lure a cod.

For Heaven without fishing

Would leave Grandpa wishing

That he’d been sent to somewhere else.

God, if you don’t mind

Sending him back would be just fine.

I promise this time

I’ll listen closely to his stories

Perhaps write down his memories.

I swear I’ll go fishing with him,

Because, with Grandpa, I’ve never been.

Grandpa, if you’d let me

I’d cry you an ocean, wait and see

And all my memories

Could be the fish.

So whenever you wish

Throw a line out to sea

And you’ll catch reminders of you and me.

Jesus has removed the sting of death (Cor. 15:55).Now we too have victory by believing in the Son of God's death and resurrection for us. Through Jesus'
perfect work, we can beat death---for good!

We owed a debt we  couldn't pay;
Jesus paid a debt He didn't owe.

Rest in peace, Herb, rest in peace..

Love, Louise
