His Life
May 5, 2013

Herbert H. Garner, born on November 9, 1928, in Philadelphia, Illinois, was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. His life on earth ended on April 27, 2013, but he will live forever in our hearts, as we continue to be blessed by his spirit, and by the precious memories of all the ways in which he touched our lives.

Herb served his country in the United States Navy in World War II and the Korean War, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Herb was  a Shriner, volunteering his time and his talents to raise money to help children and families in need.

Herb enjoyed fishing and mushroom hunting, and could crack black walnuts like nobody’s business.  His sense of humor kept his family and friends smiling, and his flawless work ethic was a gift that provided all that his family needed, and set a great example for his children to follow. He was a loyal employee of Bekins Moving and Storage Company for more than 25 years.

Herb is survived by his wife, Louise Garner, sons Mark Garner and James Garner, daughters Mary Ann Barr and Lynn Garner, grandchildren Christopher and Stephanie Barr, sister Mary Jane Hedgecock, and brother, William(Bill) Garner. Herb was predeceased by his mother Anna May Garner, father Harrison Garner, brothers Kenneth and Delbert Garner, sisters Betty Ann James and Josephine Lyons, and daughter Diana Garner.

Herb will be loved and missed forever.
