His Life
March 14, 2016

Mr. Walker was born in Roswell New Mexico, on August 27, 1948, the son of the late, Catherine Josephine Black Walker and Herbert Charles Walker. He was a member of the Saint Peters Catholic Church in LaGrange, Georgia, and held an Associate’s degree in Business from Clayton State University. He served his country honorable in the United States Airforce, with two tours in the Vietnam Conflict. For most of his adult life he was employed by Fed Ex, from which he retired from the LaGrange Fed Ex Center. Mr. Herb was a fun loving man who loved to make everyone feel good about themselves, and life. He delighted in joking with people, and making them smile. Over twenty years ago, he moved his family to Franklin, Georgia to be near his wife’s family, the Jennings, with whom he considered to be his own family. He quickly fell in love with the town, and its people. Fishing for Bass, playing golf, and following his beloved Georgia Tech in all their sports endeavors were his favorite pastimes! He had a true heart for service, and insists on sponsoring a needy child from a foreign county every year, and many other charities that he thought needed his help. His main joy in life was his wife, Carolyn, their four children, and eleven grandchildren. Nothing thrilled him more than being a part of their lives. Many young women, his daughter’s age will remember him as their “nine and ten year old Girls Softball Coach.” Nothing was too hard for him to tackle if it involved helping his family. His love and generosity to his family, and the people of Heard County will long be remembered.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn Ann Jennings Walker of Franklin, GA.; daughter, Meredith Craft (Rod) of Columbus, GA.; three sons, Joseph Walker (Roberta) of Pompano Beach, FL., Herbert Charles Walker, IIII of Covington, GA., and Benjamin Walker (Jennifer) of Newnan, GA.; four sisters, Edith Brantley of Milledgeville, GA., Marie Sanders of Bardstown, KY., Katherine Pitts (Garry) of Douglasville, GA., and Martha Price of Hampton, GA.; two brothers, Martin Walker (Cari) of Atlanta, GA., and Kevin Walker (Lauri) of McDonough, GA.; and eleven grandchildren.
