“The Walking Man”
Mr. Herman Clinton Kirk, Sr., 91, of Valley, Ala., peacefully departed this life on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Lanier Memorial Hospital, with his family by his side.

Born Sunday, March 14, 1920 in Krebs, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Mary Ann Manley and Walter Marion Kirk. His wife of 53 years, Janie Ellen Kirk and his sister, Lois Tenant and his brothers, Harvey Edward Kirk and Ralph Kirk, preceded him in death.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. As an avid walker, he logged over 53,483 miles and earned the title of the Valley’s “Walking Man”. When his health would not allow him to continue walking, he chose some new hobbies; including working puzzles and hand making houses. He took great joy in giving them away to family and friends.

The “Walking Man” is survived by: daughters, Anita Bowles of Valley and Deena (Jimmy) Sanders of Lanett; son, Clinton (Sarah) Kirk Jr. of Capon Bridge, West Virginia; granddaughters, Tammie Bowles of Elkview, West Virginia, Lori (Paul) McAllister of Hixson, Tenn., Carrie (Zeke) Billingslea of West Point, Ga., Yvonne (Robbie) Powers and Lisa (Billy) Noel, all of Nokesville, Va., and Nicole Sanders of Lanett; grandsons, David (April) Bowles Jr. of Elkview, West Virginia, Billy (Lisa) Kirk of Martinsburg, West Virginia and Brian Sanders of Lanett, Alabama; and great-grandchildren, Zoe, Maya and Sophie Billingslea, Shelby and David Bowles III, Sara and Nathan McAllister, Morgan, Miranda and Connor Noel, Felicity, Alexis and Nathaniel Kirk, Zachary and Amanda Lumb.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 28, 2011 from 6:00PM EDT until 8:00PM EDT at McCarthy Funeral Home in West Point, Georgia.

The funeral will be held at McCarthy Funeral Home in West Point, Georgia at 11:00AM EDT on Thursday, September 29, 2011, with Reverend Mark McGee officiating. Burial followed at Hillcrest Cemetery in Lanett.

Our family would like to offer our condolences for the loss of Mr. Kirk Sr. Knowing that others are thinking of you during this time can be a source of strength. May God continue to wipe the tears from your eyes as we await the time when death will be no more. Revelation 21:3, 4.
