The Obituary

December 24, 2020
Herman Veasley, affectionately known as Junior or June, was born on January 8, 1925, in Kosciusko, Mississippi.  He and his older sister Beatrice and younger brother Ollie, were raised by their mother, Inatio Shipp Brown and stepfather Isaac Brown in the small, rural Mississippi town of their birth.

As teenagers in Kosciusko, Junior and Ollie began tinkering with cars, which lead to working at the Ellis Motor Company.  He continued to use his extraordinary mechanical skills when he moved to Detroit, Michigan, and began working as a mechanic for the Greyhound Bus Company, Railway Express, and later, Ford Motor Company, from which he retired.

In 1945, he was united in marriage to Bernice “Bunny” Gaston, who was also from Kosciusko. The couple moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1946 and later moved to Inkster,  Michigan.  They united with Inkster Springhill Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Esaias F. Lee.  In 1963, the couple was blessed with a son, Herman Joseph “Joey” Veasley, who preceded him in death in 1992.  In 1987, Bunny, his wife of 42 years, made her transition.

He later united in marriage with Wanda “Renee” Gaston, and became stepfather to Renee’s son, Corey and daughter, Zlanda (“Missy”).  In 2015, Renee, his wife of 27 years, made her transition.

Over the years, Junior was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting and camping. He loved his family and his hometown, Kosciusko, MS. Memories of his childhood made him smile and laugh. The stories he told are priceless!

On Friday, December 18, 2020, Junior laid back to rest and quietly slipped away.  Peacefully and without pain he entered into his final rest.

He was preceded in death by his mother Inatio, stepfather Isaac, sister Beatrice, brother Ollie, wives Bernice (“Bunny”), Wanda (“Renee”) and his son Herman Joseph (“Joey”).  He leaves to cherish his memory his stepson, Corey, stepdaughter, Zlanda (“Missy”), two sister-in-law’s, Sherron Campbell and Shirley Veasey, one brother-in law, Ralph Gaston, special friends Vesta and Jerome ("Romi") Vanhook and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
