Hollis C. Lamb, 76, of Port Charlotte, Florida died unexpectedly on Friday, December  15, 2017, at his home in Port Charlotte.

Hollis was born March 3, 1941, in Crown Point, New York to the late Lawrence G. Lamb and Stella E. Wilcox Lamb.  He was a retired computer programmer/analyst and a US Army veteran.  He lived in Florida the majority of his adult life. In his youth, he was an accomplished horseman and gave riding lessons and trail rides at the family stable in the Adirondacks.  All of his life he loved fishing and boating, backyard BBQs and gardening.  He was obsessive about keeping his tomatoes pruned!  The family brought him great joy, he loved to “brag” about his children and grandchildren, but not in front of them.  He wanted them to stay humble and keep up the good work.  He was fortunate to enjoy many trips to the vacation home he and Joyce shared in North Carolina.

He is predeceased by his wife, Dianne E. Lamb, infant son, Scott Lamb and 3 brothers: George, Galen and Preston Lamb.

He is survived by his companion and soul mate, Joyce Metzger, a daughter, Tracy Lamb of Clearwater, FL; a son, Todd (Kasey) Lamb of New Smyrna Beach, FL; a sister, Charlotte (Harris) Hewitt of Chestertown, NY; a brother, Daryl(Pat) Lamb of Commerce City, CO and his 5 grandchildren – Joshua, Rayna, Grace, Hannah and Braden; his step families, the Adkins and the Stokes families and  especially step-granddaughter, Kayla who brought much joy to her “Grandpa”.

Committal services & interment will be on January 18th at 10am at the Sarasota National Cemetary

Five years of missing Hollis’s presence. This year his daughter and I spent a couple of hours sharing stories and memories of our time with Hollis. We laughed and we cried and felt his warmth and sense of humor and realized what a part of us he will always be. His legacy lives on in so many ways.
We are blessed.
“I love you bro!”
I’m still your favorite sister! ❤️

Four years since we last chatted but I still laugh at your corny jokes & hover over the barbecue grill to get the bbq chicken just right! Per your recipe!
Never gone, always a part of our lives. Love you forever bro!

Three years and still missed. Our baby brother and I have been sharing photos of childhood times. Hollis was an excellent horseman; gave riding lessons and won trophies and ribbons in horse shows. He helped our father run a tourist attraction western town called “Prairie Town”. A lot of smiles he had during that time. Such precious memories! Love you Hollis!

It's hard to believe we are at the 1-year anniversary of my brother, Hollis's, passing. Sometimes it feels like only yesterday he left us; other times, like forever ago. There are reminders of him every where, every day. Our hearts still ache, we still cry, but there are glimpses of smiles as we remember and treasure our times together. He may be physically gone, but is forever in our hearts. Your "favorite sister" (a quote from Hollis, since I'm the only sister!) wants you to know how much you are missed, and that "I love you, Bro".

My Treasured Brother

January 4, 2018

Hollis and I were close siblings even when we were growing up.   He was super protective of me to the point of chasing away any potential boyfriends if they didn't pass his approval.  Most did not!  I returned his favor by tagging behind him whenever he brought a girlfriend home.  He called me "the pest - go away"!  Of course I did not being the a typical pain in the neck sister

When our mom passed away Hollis came home from Army duty to take care of our father, our younger brother (age 8) and me (age 13).

Always through the years we looked out for each other.  When he was going to College we lived in the same apartment complex so I could babysit his preschool daughter.  We had such fun!  One week-end we drove up and down the coast of Florida looking for a store that carried "smelt".  He craved that Adirondack delicacy.  We had a huge fish fry that night with a beer of course!  The landlord complained that we "stunk up" the place!  Oh well - but yum.

Hollis tried to live back in the Northeast a few times in NY, CT and Vt.  Did you know he was a radio announcer and DJ here in the North? But  he eventually realized he was a Floridian by nature.  Winters in the North no fun!  It became our mission to make visits whenever we could and to gab on the phone a lot - almost every day!

And we never ended a conversation without saying "I love you."

I love you, Bro!  .
