His Life

My Life

March 1, 2016

Homer was born somewhere in the area of Boise, Idaho around the year of 2006.

When he was approximately 4 years old he was found as a stray wandering the streets and taken to the local shelter.

He was not there thankfully very long when a young boy came looking for a companion and immediately recognized Homer as " the one for him".

They spent a wonderful year hiking, climbing, playing ball, and just thoroughly enjoying their time together.

One tragic afternoon as they arrived home a diesel truck hit Homer striking him in the head. The driver never stopped and changed Homers world forever.

He lost his sight and fell into a deep depression. His boy tried to care for a handicapped dog, but it was a task that was too great for a young boy. He decided that he was not the best option for Homer to live the rest of his life with and with a broken heart did what was best for Homer.

The happy ending to this sad and tragic tale is that the boy's dad decided that he would rise to the occasion and take on a blind and depressed dog as an extension of the love he had for his son.

Enter fate and the term who rescued who.........
Homer became the light of his life and he of his. They were inseparable and shared a love and connection that anyone could see that saw them together.

Homer waited everyday for the time when the garage door would open and in would walk his Dad ready even on days he was exhausted to take his boy for a walk and play some ball with him.
The days of ball, walks, TV and snuggle time turned into years.

Homer suddenly became ill and within 48 hours left us. He was diagnosed with cancer of the spleen and a tumor that ruptured and sent him on a rapid decline.

His Dad was faced with the heartbreaking decision to make him endure major surgery and chemotherapy only to selfishly keep him with him for only a few months or say goodbye to him. He struggled tremendously with this decision but in the end knew he could not put his best friend through all of this just for him, and let him go.

Homer's life is a reminder to us all that no matter what life throws at you there is a second chance at love and happiness.

He will be missed every day until he is joined with us again on the Rainbow Bridge.

Love your four legged babies and never take them for granted as they may leave you as unexpectedly as Homer left us.
