How can I write a tribute for a man I hold so much in high esteem? How can I tell the story of how I met Chief as we fondly called him. How can sing the dirge of the Man who took me up and mentored me at a time of my life when I had just lost my father... How can I talk about a man who once said to me; ' I wish you were my biological son'...
That is how far it was with Chief Bon Nwakanma KSC SAN. MON. Sir Bon name was household in Imo state back from 1983 when he was Attorney General. But I actually met this great man some time in 1994 to early 1995 as a law Student in UNEC. I had come for a Law Student Association fund raising as an execute and to invite him to our program. That meeting changed my live and my destiny. After waiting he ushered me in and drilled me in questions. He was satisfied. Rather than offer the Association Money, he offered me Mentorship and honoured me by attending the Law Dinner Program.
Chief taught me like a father will teach a son. Every holiday was spent in his chambers little surprise I also did my Chambers attachment in Bon Nwakanma and Co. Each day there was a word of advise fromChief. Each appearance in Court, on our way home, he will ask few questions and teach me something new. My joy knew no bounds the day He asked me to do so research and argument on the strength of decided cases.I did and he read it and asked to type it. At the courtofAppeal he pulled out the argument I prepared and that was his submission verbatim. We won the appeal and I was so fulfilled. Twice while I was in Law School Bwari,Chief came to visit me just to give me money. I am forever indebted to you sir...

I am glad that in your life time I was not a disappointment to you. From my flourishing law practice in the heart of Lagos Island, you followed up my success story. And every time I was in Owerri I made sure I came to see you. I can't forget the last visit when you ushered me into your bedroom to see you as you were sick. Even in that sickness, you reminded me to begin application for Silk and to aim at that. I am so broken that you never lived to guide me well on that...
Adieu Chief. You told me back then , that every year you create a budget to help people especially young people in education. You told me that it is out of that budget that you assisted me and you asked me to do same when I get blessed. Chief sir,. I am happy though with tears and in your death, to say that I have been doing that. I have sponsored about Five strangers to complete higher institutions and I am not stopping. Another set of 3 are presently in school.I tell each of them about you and like you did to me, I tell them to do the same to others when God blesses them. This way your legacy of Good will continue . Your flag we have received and unto the jungle of life we match, your rank we shall defend.. Adiu Chief, Adiu father. Adieu my Mentor.
