High School Football Fridays

August 28, 2014

During my elementary and early middle school years, Firday nights in the fall were special. I remember getting home from school and waiting for my Dad to come home and take me and my brother to the Shikellamy football games. It didn’t matter how far away from home he was during the week for work or how tired he was, he always seem to know when he had to be home in order to make the game. Selingsgrove, Danville, Hazelton, Berwick, Mount Carmel, Pottsville, Shamokin, and even a playoff game in Scranton were never to long of trips. It was his way of making sure we got to spend time together since he traveled weeks at a time for his job. I will always remember those times with him and will ensure my boys experience the same.

Miracle On Ice

August 27, 2014

The 1980 Olympic Ice Hockey game between USA and USSR is one of the most memorable moments in my life. I will never forget watching Mike Eruzione score the winning goal to defeat the unstoppable USSR machine. I also will never forget watching the game with Dad and my brother at the Holiday Inn in Shamokin Dam. This game occured during a time period where my parents were seperating and things were caotic in my life. For a 9 year old kid and his 12 year old brother, being with their Dad who was not living at home with them made this an unforgettable memory. I look forward to watching "Miracle on Ice" again and thinking of my Dad and how special that night was.
