Howell Thomas Briggs, 81, a lifelong resident of Granville County departed this earthly world to go to a greater home in heaven Thursday, June 27th, 2013 at his home.
A native of Granville County the son of the late Joseph Howell and Isabel Ford Briggs. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in the Korean Conflict and a Purple Heart recipient. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and retired from Athol Manufacturing Company in Butner after almost forty years of service. After retiring he enjoyed raising cows, goats, ducks and geese. He enjoyed the outside world and took his time to smell the roses. He was an avid Nascar fan.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m., Sunday June 30th, 2013 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church by the Rev. Keith Williams and Rev. Barry Chambers. Burial will be at Surl Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife of sixty-one years, Kathryn Price Briggs of Rougemont, a daughter Debra B. Moss of Creedmoor, a son Ronald Thomas Briggs (Beverly) of Rougemont, three granddaughters, Adrienne Briggs, Megan Moss, Laura Brigg and a sister, Joanne Briggs Clark and husband Boyd. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Briggs Cox and a brother in-law Joe Cox.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1171 Hwy 158, Oxford, N.C.
Visitation will be held Sunday, June 30th, 2013 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Fellowship Hall from 2:00 – 3:30 PM prior to the funeral and at other times at the home.
