One cannot think of Hyacinth without thinking of her love for Methodism and the Methodist church in Spanish Town. I learned so much from her as her little sister and how because of her I got to know so many far away places as a junior member of the famous Wesley guild. I became known for my skill as an elocutionist and because of her I was able to travel to many parts of Jamaica with the grown ups.

Hyacinth knew all the hymns in the hymn book - not just the words but the tunes as well. Her love for the church and church activities spilled over to me hence the reason that I too spent a lot of time in the church. She was the true example for a little sister.

Those who knew her well knew how funny she was and you would never know it because she kept such a straight face. I imagine she got a lot of practice with Edgar, her husband who was equally funny. In her later years she was the one person who could recount all the funny stories and the nicknames of people around Spanish Town. I will sorely miss those times on the veranda after she would come home from work and sit there for hours keeping us in stitches. Not even her failing health could diminish her ability to make us laugh.

I will miss you big sis but I will see you again!

Much love,
Sheila

They say that it takes a village to raise a child and my Aunt Hya was truly part of that village. She played an intricate part in the raising of both myself and my sister by opening her doors for us. Her floral love is the reason why I purchase flowers weekly! I am happy that in her final days she was virtually able to communicate with me and meet my family. Rest well Aunt Hya!

To Andrew and family., my condolences. You know as a kid, a little boy so long ago, growing up with Andrew in Brooklyn NYC off Caton ave. As our friendship grew, Mrs. Hyacinth accepted me as one of her own into her home. She open her doors reminded me without any hesitation, that I was welcome anytime and I knew she meant it. That meant a lot to me then and will always stay with me. You know back home in Jamaica growing up with my grandparents. You were told to 'never wear out your welcome' in anybodies yard. I don't know how I or anyone else could do so in Mrs. Hyacinth's house. She made her home my home and I knew that I could show up anytime. Mrs. Hyacinth's house was my home away from home. I express my gratitude to Mrs. Hyacinth
and Andrew, thank you for sharing your mom with me as I was coping and growing up during those trying days of my youth. Again my condolences to you and family. Sprout

To Andrew and Family:

While it is very difficult to accept the passing of the ones we love dearest. Mrs Davis have lived 90 good years, please take this moment to reflect on the great time you had and shared, from Brunswick Avenue, Spanish Town, to the USA. She did it her way, with class and dignity with you by her side.

My sincerest of condolences to you and your family, as we honor and thank Mrs. Davis for the time she gave us, while she bit us farewell.

I thank you for being more than an aunt to me. You were always willing to help everyone in whatever way you can. Everyone has a favorite aunt and you were the one for me. Whenever I need someone to talk with, I would always call aunt Hya. You would always say some comforting words and then we would reminisce about life at home in Jamaica, especially your dear Edgar's jokes (we would have so much laughter on the phone). Aunt Hya, I will surely miss our weekend telephone talks and I will always love you. Rest In Peace my dear aunt.

It is so difficult to say goodbye to those you know and love. I will always recall the many days spent at Brunswick Avenue sitting in the vegetable garden that you loved so much and how we reminisced of the great days in that wonderful Spanish Town. It was like going to the conservatory for inspiration and cultural refreshment .... great memories.

Our hope is in the future. Death ends one chapter but love continues in the other.

Always in my heart,
Your brother Alvyn

Mrs. D, As you continue your journey, I would be remiss in not saying how much I admired you.
Our conversations over the years will most certainly stay with me. Your poise and strong conviction showed me why your son is half the man he is today; your legacy lives on not only in him but in all lives you have touched, including mines.
You're loved by many, and we all are holding tight to the great memories of you; it gives us all comfort and courage as we face the future.
My parting words are the verse of a song;
"God be with you till we meet again, by his counsel's guide uphold you with his sheep securely fold you;
God be with you till we meet again."
Walk good, One love
