Rest in Power and rest in peace Ian. It is still difficult to believe you are no longer with us. A face from "back in the day". The very last time I saw you face to face was at the BLM event in Newport and we spoke at long length. Prior to that a few years back I spent an evening at your yard taste testing your home made Jamaican sauce! 10/10! Much jokes! A true man of compassion. Solid and real at your core! RIP to a positive light, may the flame of love and rememberance linger forever bright

Ian Newman passed away on Wednesday 13th January 2021 at the age of 59. Ian was born in Kingston, Jamaica to parents Girlie and Renel. Ian has lived in Newport since he was 9 years old. Ian was the eldest of 6 children. He attended Tredegar Wharf Primary School, William Street, Pillgwenlly, and Duffryn High School. Ian was brought up in Gaer Vale and lived in Rodney Road at the time of his death.
At school Ian enjoyed drama and appeared in HMS Pinafore and Oliver! among other productions. He was very sporty and enjoyed playing football and cricket for the school teams. Ian was an ardent Arsenal supporter.
Ian enjoyed roller skating and was a passionate member of Maskells roller hockey team. Ian was an entrepreneur who owned 2 videos stores in Newport when only in his 20's

Ian is survived by his father Renel, partner Michelle, his siblings Caroline, Joanne, Samuel and Cynthia, seven children and four grandchildren.
Ian was a well known and popular figure around Newport and Cardiff. For many years he was the manager of the local KFC, he worked as security personnel in various clubs and bars including Cinderella’s, Metros and Cardiff Bay Salt Bar.
More recently Ian worked as a long distance driver, a job he thoroughly enjoyed as it enabled him to experience every corner of Wales and the rest of Great Britain.
Ian loved to travel especially to his native Jamaica and the Caribbean, recently enjoying the sights of Cuba. He was fun loving, engaging, sociable and friendly. Ian was committed to his family. He loved to dance and cook. He loved spitfires, steam trains, marvel movies, and was particularly fond of the Original Superman. Ian was a big personality and he will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Ian’s sister Caroline said “We are devastated at the loss of our big brother, who has known us our whole lives and who was our protector for a long time”.
Ian’s partner Michelle said "Ian was my rock. He always put his family first, always listened and gave the best advice to all and I will forever hold our precious memories.”
