TRIBUTE: UNCLE IDOWU SALAMI (Olamide Akinnuoye)

February 18, 2021

“I love you”

This was the last thing I had said to my Uncle Idowu. It was his birthday.

No one has the words to describe the shock, the pain,
and the hurt of losing our uncle, husband, father, son, brother, and friend.
Uncle Idowu’s LIFE was brilliant, beautiful, and wonderful! Full of laughter and delicious food that he was so skilled at cooking! I will also never forget your big & bright smile Uncle!!!
Uncle ID’s life must be celebrated by all of us!

Yet we must also hold near Jesus’ words in Matthew 5:4
“Blessed are they that mourn,
for they shall be comforted.”

Now though we mourn knowing that God blesses us through the tears, we are not in despair like the world, who mourn endlessly without hope, because we know that we will see you soon Uncle in Glory! I am so excited for that!

We wait with expectation.
We thank God for your life
Uncle Idowu!
Well I guess that’s all for now,

See you soon!

In Jesus name,
Amen.

Since getting the dreaded phone call on Feb 6, 2021 informing me of your passing, it has been like a bad dream from which I was hoping to wake up. Writing this tribute makes reality dawn on me and it is finally time to accept and say good bye dear uncle
Where do I start from? Knowing you for over twenty years, there is so much to write about you. Your life has been a blessing and a source of inspiration to me. Uncle Idowu you were aways ready to help and to support my dreams as a young girl. I remember the good old days as a teenager tagging along with you and Anti Buss to your Internet cafe, Double click at Favours, Bodija . I also remember with nostalgia Sunday lunch at Grandma’s Dining table in Eleta chatting with you about politics. Our Las Vegas trip for your birthday in February 2019 was so much fun. There are so many fond memories too numerous to recount. The last time I saw you was at Grandpa and Grandma O’s 50th Wedding Anniversary in November 2019 and little did I know that would be the last time I’ll see you.
One of my impactful memories is the role you played when I missed the graduate recruiting test from Pricewaterhousecoopers. You noticed my sad disposition and enquired about what happened and went out of your way to try and help fix it. That act of selflessness and always wanting to make things better for people stuck with me. I also remember your support and encouragement when I was making plans to travel to Canada for my post graduate studies. You were also influential in getting me a job at Standard Chartered in Ibadan.
Just as Abraham Lincoln said ‘’In the end, it’s not the years in your life that counts. It is the life in your years’’. Though your time here on earth was brief, yet you impacted so many lives positively and in particular you played a very positive role in my life which I will be grateful for.I will miss you greatly Uncle and though it is sad and painful, I choose to celebrate the life you lived and the positive impact you made.
Good night Uncle….❤️❤️❤️

Forever missed

Will really miss you my cousin and brother. Though we,ve not been together for years but from the depth of my heart, I am saying it boldly that I will forever miss you my brother. May your gentle soul rest in perfect peace till we meet again at the feet of Jesus Christ.

ID the Coolest guy

He was full of solution, ID’s name only came up when something tougher than simple minds like ours needed solving. A true gem to the Salami’s. We all would truly miss our friend, ally, uncle, teacher, brother and true leader!
God Bless

Forever in memories

No words can describe how touching it was hearing that you have left us forever. Had the pleasure of working with you “double click” sharing from your fountain of knowledge and wisdom. A great man (with the heart of Gold) has left this earth but will forever be in my heart, my thought and prayers. Great memories will live on
