Dad, it's 3 years already. You are absent in body but I know you are present in spirit. I feel your nudging, your guidance and inspiration. I remember that you were a quiet force. That's super inspiring. I miss your guiding wisdom and I am comforted by the fact that you are close by. I wonder if that's what God gifts his saints. Keep resting in God's bosom.

My prayers are with the family.

Corinthians 12:9 Each time he said, "My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness." So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.

Dirge to my foster father

I mastered your name from praises
Attributed by the elderly eulogies
As a kid, Dee Isreal was the acronym
Which becomes the village family synonym

Was the marathon trek to Azu-akwu-nkwo spring
Not shortened during the dry seasonal spring
When he made his pipe water freely available
Which was to all beneficial and reliable

Dee Isreal, I call you my foster father
Though, you are mindful of my father
Have trusted on my untiring vision
Which is now my existential mission

Most mothers who trained their grandchild
Proudly discuss their grandmother in every mild
That is from him, comes all my support
Which I can now gratitudiously purport

I am sobered by his digressed transition
I moan, with hope of his glorious transformation
With Paul Mbiti's aphorism, you are spirit living
In the blissful heavenly place of the living

Your passion was to preserve in immortality
Which you have now been kept in eternity
Your memory can be unerasable in immediacy
As indelible in my mind as irreplaceable legacy

Gentility was an act in your epitomise wisdom
As you are now in God’s joyful kingdom
As the two Augustines, father and uncle left
Your succours, as God wills, one day unbereft.

Hi

Daddy as i grew up to know and call you. This is not just a Tribute, but a letter to apologize for not having the great opportunity of chatting with you and sure getting some words and advice and to say a very big Thank you for your fatherly love, support and training to me before your journey to your maker.

As a child my very best outfit was a beautiful pleat skirt and blouse with an inscription " My Friends call Me Chatty" you bought for me from one of your trips abroad ....I wore it so often that the inscription became a household name. Untill you mentioned that you were not my Fathers biological brother, nothing insinuated that you were not, because the Love, bond and relationship you shared with us made me believe you were my only Uncle hence I grew up calling you Daddy while others called you Dede.
I wouldnt be counting my blessings today without first counting you and appreciating your assistance and financial support through my University education.

You would visit my in school anytime you came to Portharcourt for a meeting of course with loads of goodies in the basket..Even when i was in Badagry French Village for my third year. Chaiiiiiii Daddy thank you, please forgive me if you were ever disappointed in my not coming to visit and spend time with you.
You and Mummy showed me so much Love that all my friends in Falomo and around thought you both were my biological parents hence they still call Mummy "Mama Chioma" till date.
Daddy gaa nke oma, ijeoma ,laa na udo because you made peace with everybody before this journey. I know by God's mercy your soul is resting with your Lord and Savior who you served all the days of your life.
I will always Love you Daddy.

FAREWELL TO MY BELOVED BROTHER SIR A.I.O IZUKA

Your sudden death was least expected. It came without pre-information, our inevitable end. Bros as I always called you, we met last on the 16th January, 2021, before leaving back to Jos. Where do I start now? Memories of how you accommodated me at your hotel for over 2 years when I was stranded, your support during my building projects, the vacuum you created none can fill. Ogo wee is left with only your beautiful memories which I would treasure forever. I will forever remember your words of advice and encouragement. You will forever remain in my heart. Your legacies will forever be memorable our hearts. Your caring wife is left alone with the children; they will be comforted by Gods grace. Bros rest on, till we meet again in paradise. Adieu, forever in my heart.

According to Shakespare, death is a necessary end, it will come when it will come. Uchechi, the death of your father came to me as a rude shock. My close relationship with you symbolises God fearing attributes in you as tutored by Godly parents, which you conspicuously demonstrate. However, your Daddy has contributed his part faithfully; he came, he saw, he tutored and he conquered, we are all indebted to death, thank God your father had lived a good life up to the riped age and served humanity. Abrak with his soul forever, AMEN.

TRIBUTE TO MY MENTOR

What is the measure of a man? Is it the amount of money he has; the possessions he owns; the power he holds or the professional success he has achieved over the years? I do not believe it is any of these. The true measure of a man is how much love he gives, how much selflessly he shares whatever he has to help others; how consistently he lifts up those around him with kind words and complements. My Mentor and brother Sir (Engr.) Augustine Iheanyi Izuka by this measure was immeasurable.

It was indeed sad for me when I was told that my mentor, my brother, my friend Sir Augustine Izuka had passed on. It is therefore with sadness and deep feeling of grief that I write this tribute. What can I say about you brother Izuka. Is it how you encouraged me to go to Federal Government CollageOkigwe and went ahead to support me financially and otherwise or about all the advise and encouragement you gave me which led to my traveling abroad to further my education. You continued your fatherly advise despite the fact that I had gotten married and encouraged me to return home and do all I can to see that I help the needy. This of course led me to the formation of my foundation.

Your death has caused me great pain. It has created a big vacuum in the family, which will take a long time to be filled.

I will miss you forever. However I take solace in Him who called you. I believe you are better and happier now you are resting in the bossom of our Lord. Rest in Peace my Mentor and Brother.

Well done, good and faithful servant.
You have been faithful over a little;
I will set you over much.
Enter into the joy of your master.
– Matthew 25:21

Uncle Iheanyi you will be sorely missed .I echo the words of our Master Jesus as he embraces you into his bosom. You were such a kind warm welcoming presence .
Reading stories of your beginnings just echoes what a wonderful heart you truly were ...I remember childhood days visiting Uche (seems aeons ago now !)you always had a laugh and smile for everyone wondering if we had eaten or if we were okay .Your kindness and generosity and love for the things of God have been passed down to your wonderful family .

So today even as we look to the Lord to comfort your loved ones we rejoice and celebrate the life you lived and the love you so willingly gave to everyone who knew you and we take heart knowing you are in the bosom Of The Master Jesus where weeping and mourning will cease

The song might be ended but the melody truly lingers on.....

Rest in Love Uncle .Rest in Gods amazing love

Goodbye Papa Chichi. You were truly a wonderful husband to my friend Nkechi and a loving, sacrificial Dad to your children. I can never forget the very first time I met you when I came visiting with my husband. You left an indelible memory of humility, kindness and Christlikeness. I thank God for the 80years of life he gave you with the best wife and children and grand children. Though the storms of life came, You and Nkechi rode on these storms with great and unquenchable faith in God. Goodnight Sir, see you on Resurrection Morning.

Our dear Sister Mrs. Mabel Izuka, dear Family and Friends:

I first came to know Engr. Iheanyi Augustine Izuka in his capacity as an engineer at NNPC. In that position, he was both intelligent and honest--two qualities which today are rarely found in any single human being.

As our friendship developed, I came to discover that Engr. Izuka was also a writer of no mean repute. His books, Home is Home and Home Indeed, were devoured by my wife and me, and we took to calling him "Author".

But above all, Engr. Izuka was a child of God. His deep faith and devotion to our Catholic Faith was inspiring and infectious. That is why he was able to show such incredible courage in the face of his severe health challenges. I know that this courage has impacted me and so many others--teaching us how to bear one's cross, how to cope with the various vicissitudes of which life is capable.

I will stop here. I am sorry if I cannot capture in words --as our late Author Izuka would have done--the profound grief we feel at his passing. We pray that as we celebrate his life here on earth, another celebration will take place in Heaven because Sir, Engineer, Author, Man of God, Iheanyi Augustine Izuka is coming home.

And so, as Catholics, we ask the intercession of our Blessed Mother Mary as we say: Mary, help of Christians, pray for our Brother Izuka, pray for his dear wife, his children and relations, and pray for us all.

Pax Domini sit semper vobiscum--the peace of God remain with you.

Tribute to a Friend, My In-law. Sr Augustine Izuka (KSJI).

I recall the very first time we met. It was a scheduled "get acquainted" visit to my house in Port Harcourt only eight years ago. Your son, Iheanyi Chris Izuka was starting the preliminaries of getting married to my daughter, Onyinye Faith Oga. You came with your wife, your nephew, Jude, and your Port Harcourt Friend. I didn't know what to expect, I simply kept an open mind. You took less than five minutes to put me at ease. And what could have been a formal first meeting of two unacquainted families became three hours of a joyous evening, with down to earth sharing of similar stories of our youthful lives. From that day you became my friend. Needless to state that the objective of that meeting has been a resounding success.

You were driven by your deep sense of family, faith and humility. Your motivation of your children to attain higher levels of education is admirable. Your faith and humility is exemplified by the various courses that you support, your charity to the church and to others.
Your resilience after your prolonged illness in India and here in Nigeria also showed a deep faith and willingness to live for your loved ones.
You have departed now, not wanting to burden anyone anymore. You should be assured that your legacy will continue to live on, and your place is with the Angels in heaven.

Good bye, my friend, my In-law!

TRIBUTE TO OUR DEAR IN- LAW
----------------------------------------
AUSTIN as fondly eulogies by Our father, Chief, Eze, Felix.O. Onuoha, Your dear late father in-law.
Your passing to glory took us by great surprise, when we were told.
You were a great ally and loyal husband to our dear sister ( Lady Mabel Izuka) and most especially a distinguished Father to his children. We will never forget your big role as our father first in-law. Very close to the family
Your life had been blessed with great moments and many successful children who you together with our sister have nurtured to become enviable individuals.
In your life, you were a strong and determined man who didn't tolerate nonsense, even your illness didn't dampen this sprite. The courage and fight you put to overcome the illness was exceptional, but God's call for you is greater.
We love you, but our almighty God loves you more, you are among His angels.
May your gentle and loving soul, rest in perfect peace. Amen.
Adieu. Sir Augustin Iheanyi Izuka.

Goodbye Grandpa

You don’t hear too much about Fathers In Law, but I must say that mine was one of the best! What made him so special in my eyes, was that he was the father of six children and each one of them looked up to him with respect, love, and admiration. That’s not to say that they didn’t look up to their Mother in the same way, but, there was something different about how they all related to him.

My Father in Law was a thinker! He was a quiet man, who didn’t push himself on anyone, but he would quietly watch and mentally “figure” out whether that person was a good person or not. And then he did the most incredible thing…….he kept his feelings to himself and would let that new person hang themselves or fit into the family.

Even his final hours were quiet and drama free, just like the man he was. He was a man who worked hard, never bemoaning life, always accepting how things were and enjoying the moment. He taught me a lot about what matters and how to just be happy.

Little did we know that morning that God was going to call you home. In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you; you did not go alone; for part of us went with you the day God called you home.

You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide; and though we cannot see you, you are always at our side. Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same; but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.

We will miss you every day Grandpa! Adieu!!

TRIBUTE TO PA IZUKA

I was very shocked and saddened to hear of your demise. Your family were good Neighbours for many years. Neighbours one can say that were even closer than ones brother or sister. Until my husband’s demise in June last year, he paid you regular long visits to keep you company .Both of you being historians you enjoyed each other’s company. Only God knows why you had to join him so soon. It is well with your souls. *For precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints*.(Psalm 116:15)

I know you to be a true Christian who loved God passionately and translated such love to your fellow human beings. You were gentle, kind, caring, generous, forgiving, humorous and a family man. You had pet names for all your children and grand children and as a good man you left inheritance to your children’s children. You were truly fulfilled in life . You lived to touch lives positively as destiny helper to many. You would encourage, counsel and support in anyway you possibly could.               When my husband passed on, you were there for us. We will miss you a lot but we take solace in the fact that you made it to heaven as you desired and worked for.

You were called to glory at 77 years. 7 a number of perfection and so you had double perfection. I thank God for a life well lived.

Rest also in perfect peace in the bosom of our Lord. Baba no Adieu my ‘boy friend’ as l fondly called you and you will beam with smiles.

A TRIBUTE FOR MY LOVELY DAD
(A ROLE MODEL)

When the mirror is broken, you no longer see your image. "Father is the noblest title a man can be given. It is more than a biological role. It signifies a patriarch, a leader, an exemplar, a confidant, a teacher, a hero, and a friend".-Robert L.Backman.

"He was a father. That's what a father does. Ease the burdens of those he loves. Saves the ones he loves from painful last images that might endure for a lifetime".-George Saunders.

Dad, you were the mirror at which I looked at my life. Now that you are gone, my life is so empty that I feel it in my soul. My solace is the fact that you lived a RIGHTEOUS & HOLY LIFE. Your philanthropic & charitable life, which you extended to me by singlehandedly sponsoring my tertiary education, have cleared the path for you to your HEAVENLY INHERITANCE. Every moment of your life was like a book on a path towards HEAVENLY BLISS... My life's story becomes incomplete until your name is mentioned.

Dad, my mind still talks to you. My heart still looks for you. My soul knows you are at PEACE.

REST IN THE LORD TRUE SOLDIER OF FAITH.

ADIEU MY MIRROR.

It was difficult to accept the bad news that my brother in-law have gone to the great beyond, but what gladdens my heart is that you are heading to the paradise of Jesus Christ.

Sir Augustine Izuka KSJ lived a time, worthy and exemplary Christian life. An illustrious Christian who made huge contributions to his church and village community.

Education was very important to him, he gave all my niece and nephews the best education available both home and abroad. He also gave scholarship to  any less privilege child that needed help to further his or her education.
One of the greatest joy of any parent is to see their children grow up to be somebody in life and you did.

I cannot forget the experience and time we shared together when you visited my family and i in the United States, your jokes and advise were all very pleasant, though it was short but memorable.

Just in January 2020 you showed and shared with me your plan and development you have for our town Nkwerre but never knew that your life will be cut so soon.

Adieu brother in law. May your gentle departed soul through the mercy of God Rest in Peace. Amen.

TRIBUTE TO A GOOD MAN

I'm truly short of words because I least expected that I will be writing this tribute at this time but Who am I to question God?
You were my Father's brother and a friend, and you transferred the love you had for my father to me. Amongst all my dad's children, you singled me out, dotted on me and followed my growth. You integrated me into your family, motivated me to reach for the stars, grab them and aim higher.
You instilled discipline and hardwork in me, setting targets for me, and I'm glad I didn't disappoint you.
I am grateful that you were a part of my success story.
I am happy that you lived an exemplary life of humility, worthy of emulation. Despite all your achievements, you served God with every fibre of your being.
You were a man of great value not just to the family but the community at large.
I will miss you so much.
My only pain is that I never got the chance to say Thank you for all you did for me.
Posterity will always remember you for the Good man that you were. Continue to rest in God's bossom Uncle.
Till we meet again.

A tribute to a dear brother and friend.
Sir IAO Izuka

It is with gratitude to God for a life well lived that i write this tribute. I met Augustine Izuka as a co management staff of Nigerian National petroleum cooperation.
Augustine was a very dedicated worker who put in his best in all the tasks assigned to him.
He was a good team player and friend to all his colleagues.
I also knew him as a very devoted catholic who never failed to attend his daily mass wherever he found himself.
He was a knight of the holy catholic church hence even in his short period of incapacitation by illness,he clung to God and the sacraments. He was a true ,exemplary and committed family man. He lived a good life which would be why God gave him a second chance of living again, after he had passed on seven years ago.
So like hezekiah of the bible ,God gave him more years to complete the good work he was doing for him.
He lived, breathed and ate Catholicism . Little wonder he was privileged to receive the viaticum. It is my sincere belief that he is resting in the bossom of he whom he loved so much while on earth.
Rest on brother, may God continue to grant you a peaceful repose.Amen.

TRIBUTE TO SIR AUGUSTINE IZUKA

It is with sadness and deep sense of loss that I write this tribute in memory of
Sir Augustine Iheanyichukwu Izuka who succumbed to the cold hands of
death a couple of weeks ago.
A man of few words, Sir Izuka was honest, bold and fearless. He was a prolific
writer and an accomplished professional geologist. He was humble and mixed
freely with the high and low in the society. A reliable and fine gentleman, he
will be remembered for his sound advice, peaceful disposition and methodical
approach to issues. As he is being interred today, I pray that the Almighty
God will give his soul eternal rest and grant those he left behind especially his
amiable wife and children the fortitude to bear this irreparable and painful
loss. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

A TRIBUTE TO MY BROTHER –IN-LAW

The news of your death came as a rude shock to me.
You have been a pillar of support to many and a man with a heart large enough to bear the pains and discomfort of others.
As a silent philanthropist who takes on the burden of sponsoring the education of many, I wonder what will become of those that depend on your kind gesture for their education. Your legacies are indelible and so are your good deeds.
I am consoled by the fact that the testimonies of your good life will speak for you in God’s judgement and I pray that your soul finds eternal rest in Gods bosom.
Goodbye is not the word to use in bidding you fare well as your memories lives forever with us.
Sleep on in heavenly paradise.

BEING TRIBUTE OF DURUOKALA-DURUMBA VILLAGE MEETING LAGOS STATE BRANCH TO THEIR MEMBER:
SIR. ISRAEL IZUKA.

While we have no say on the things of God and how He does His things, nevertheless, the news of your death came to us as a shock.

You were one of our own and stood for all that will enhance the growth and wellbeing of the village. In the congregation of town unions and villages, you never failed to mention your village and ancestry.

While manner misunderstood you, which is part of human nature, you never allowed negativities to deter your developmental plans and idea for the village.

You lived your life as a worthy son, made your meaningful contributions which have been entered in the chronicles.

As a mortal, your body is to be interred and committed to mother earth, your legacies and contributions to the village lives on.

While we mourn your demise, we remain grateful to God for your worthy life.

Adieu Dee Israel!!!
Adieu Nwa Izuka!!!

TRIBUTE TO MY DEARLY BELOVED UNCLE AND A MENTOR

Where do I start? A thousand and one thought race through my mind since I saw you lying cold and speechless on the hospital bed. I never believed it was death, for you were in your normal sleeping posture, I questioned myself and asked “what could I have done differently?” Many questions, but no satisfactory answer. The only thing that seems to console me momentarily is that God knows about it but this is still not easy to bear.
It was said that it is foolish and wrong to mourn great men who died, rather we should thank God that such people lived.
Sir Augustine Izuka, you were one of such great people, you left a beautiful memory and your absence, a silent grief. With full emotion, I unequivocally declare that you were benevolent, caring, courageous and above all, God fearing. A person’s wealth is the good he or she does in the world. I admire you, your faith and courage.
With clusters of memories sprinkled with tears, I wish God had spared you longer.
Time may pass and fade but memories of you will linger. I take solace in the lord because I know you are in a better place, those who know you well or had contact with you in anyway will know that you made it, you were a complete gentleman, your doors of generosity was always open to everyone small or big, not just relatives alone, you had a big heart to accommodate everyone with smile.
Your light will continue to shine on through your children and many others who you had positive influence on while you were on earth.
May our merciful God in whose vineyard you diligently laboured receive your humble and Nobel soul and crown you with glory you merited through Christ our lord.
Amen.
Rest in peace

Tribute to our great uncle

Like the sun that is risen in the morning and sets in the evening, like the flower that grows and fade away is Sooner or later, like the vapour that appeared and disappeared. You closed your eyes in an endless sleep leaving my mum your sister Daa Rachael uninformed and without a word to a terrestrial plane far, far away. Your hard work and diligence was a lamp and a source of inspiration to many. Farewell Dee Israel. Adieu, Adieu, my Mum's beloved.

Sir Dede Augustine Izuka

Your exit left an unfillable void in our lives. You were a superb, brave, wise, and God-loving man. You were like a father, brother, uncle, and friend to us. You were the best Uncle Dede to our children. You were our great source of inspiration, especially your constant reminder for us to pray to God unceasingly; that was wonderful. We will always cherish how you continuously motivated us to persevere on all things. We adored and respected you primarily because of your high integrity, moral values, great wisdom, and humility. Your disregard for vanity, even with all your worths, was very impressive. You treated everyone (the young, old, poor, and rich) with respect and dignity. You were a rare gem, a man with a huge heart and extraordinary kindness. We will never forget your love for others and your effort to ensure the welfare of others. You were a quiet and discreet philanthropist. You were the main reason why we felt comfortable and safe whenever we came home to Nigeria. We will never forget your laughter and jokes- you made jokes out of almost everything. You never ceased to provide your fatherly advice and encouragement even when we seemed not to listen. You were selfless and always available for us even when you were sick. Dede, we loved you, but God loves you the most. We thank God that you are now resting in the bosom of the Lord in heaven. Your excellent deeds will remain evergreen in our minds, and we will carry on with your legacy. Although we have lost you here on earth, we will always remember you fondly, and you will live dearly in our memories. Bye-bye and rest in perfect peace Dede, until we meet again in heaven.

You gave hope to the hopeless with your warm and caring spirit.

My tribute to Deedem Augustine.

Deede, I call you a king because that's what you really are.
In your life time, you made impossible things possible, you touched so many life positively. Everyone that crossed your path always testify that you were such a special person. A man of substance, a genius in all manifestations, full of wisdom and a symbol of peace. A silent achiever and you forfeit your own pleasure for the sake of others. I call you king because you have all the qualities of a king.
You depart at a time we needed you most, wish I have the power to reverse you back to life that fateful morning. But there is no doubt that you have gone to be with the Lord.
Deede, I love you but God loves you most.
May you enjoy your stay with God and may your perfect soul rest in perfect peace, Amen.

*TRIBUTE TO A LEGEND, SIR IHEANYI AUGUSTINE IZUKA*
It is not possible to sum you up in few sentences because you were a great man and had so many divine qualities that made you unique.
Dede, you are a man of many virtues. A man who shrank to different sizes to accommodate all. You were a father not only to your children but to all. A man who live for a purpose, fulfilled the purpose and strived tirelessly to make everyone happy.
Dede you gave a definition to the lives of many in all dimensions; morally, financially, academically and otherwise. The most social and very intelligent man. A very good friend to Mr Charles Madukaego and a big uncle to his family.
Dede was a rare kind of person. He was meticulous to the core, punctual to duty and appointments, upright and since as a person.
Dede, as you pass on to a higher plane of existence where there is no more sorrow, pains and other mortal limitations, we the entire family of Charles Madukaego pray that God will receive you in the bosom of His heart, Amen.

From,
Macdonald Madukaego

A TRIBUTE TO A BROTHER INLAW

The news of your passing was shocking to us. There is so much I wish I could say to a man whose simplicity and humility earned him much respect despite your profound achievements. This is what makes you a special brother inlaw.
The thought of your passing hurts and I must say the everlasting imprint of your love for my family will never be erased.
Deep in our hearts you will always be remembered knowing how close you were to my late husband. Your brotherly relationship was enviable and I’m sure you both will continue your brotherly love and friendship in the great beyond.
Brother, you were a hard working man and I can attest to the fact that you sought and fought for the best upbringing for your children. You did your best in providing not only for your immediate family but for many people around you.
A good adviser who is always ready to give his fatherly advise and encourage people to work hard.
As you journey to meet your creator may He remember your good deeds and reward you.
Adieu brother, Rest in Peace.

It's been a beautiful journey working alongside Iheanyi Augustine Izuka. He is an upright man whose got a pure heart and respect for others despite his status.....The most beautiful aspect I admire so much about him is that he always makes an attempt to understand you in your situation either in difficulties or rough times..... he is there not as my boss but as a friend........that's how caring of a boss he is........
A man like him is one of a kind that has passion in
giving. He gives alms to the less privilege and many atimes offers scholarship. A kind hearted man such as him cares so much about the welfare of those around him regardless....
My boss is a born again Christian to the call. Despite his fortune he is a God fearing man. He advises me on holding God strong and cutting off tihes with whatever that doesn't please him.
In conclusion, he is the kind of man that everyone would love to work with. He is a selfless boss that puts the welfare of his workers first before himself and now that he is no longer with us and resting with the Lord I pray that may his gentle soul rest in perfect peace
We love you but God loves you most.....Rest On Sir.

His Life
February 28, 2021
Iheanyi Augustine Izuka was born in 1944, the last of six children of Nze Izuka Egwim Asuzu of Duru-Okala, Durumba, Umukor Nkwerre Imo state, and his second wife, Madam Veronica Nnenna Enyidie Izuka. His father died when he was a baby, so for most of his life, he was brought up by his mother. He attended St Thomas Catholic primary school Nkwerre for his primary education and was admitted to Bishop Shanahan college Orlu for his secondary education. Finances were very challenging for his family, and the chances of completing his education were uncertain. His late senior brother De Robinson Izuka promised to help and paid for his first term fees. Unfortunately, he lost his job before he could pay the second term fees and Augustine was at a risk of being withdrawn from school. He was advised to at least complete the first year so that when he is able to return back to school, he could go directly to JSS 2. His sister, Da Racheal Egbom then stepped in, and sold her gold earrings as well as foodstuffs to be able to fund the fees for the second term, but he had to become a day student. Completing the rest of his secondary education was made possible through the assistance of his primary school headmaster, Late Pa Francis Mbama and wife, Late Hon (Mrs) Helen Mbama. She persuaded her sister Late Mrs. Pauline Onyejiaka to speak with the husband late Dr Willie Onyejiaka, who agreed to be his benefactor and sponsored the rest of his secondary education as well as his A levels. He always remembered all those who were instrumental to him completing his education against all odds, for which he remained ever grateful and constantly spoke about to his children.

The Biafran war broke out shortly after he finished his A levels, and he enlisted like all other patriotic Igbo men and women. A very visible bullet scar across his chest was his constant reminder of that period in Igbo history and the frailty of human life, but also a ready opener for the stories he told his children about the war. His mother sadly passed away during the war as well as his benefactor. Thus, after the war, his chances of going to University were pretty slim, so despite submitting an application form, he took up a teaching position in a school, as his immediate thoughts was to support his family. Providence however smiled on him in an act of serendipity. While waiting to use a public toilet, he picked up an old newspaper publication and decided to skim through it. Unbeknown to him, he had been awarded a government scholarship to study Geology at the University of Nigeria Nsukka. To his greatest surprise, that paper had the published list of the award recipients, and his name was right there as one of them. Despite the late start, he was able to complete his registration. His dream of going to university was finally going to be realized.

Shortly after graduation in 1975, he was offered a job at the then Federal Ministry of Petroleum and Energy resources which included a sponsored postgraduate diploma training in Petroleum Engineering at the University of Ibadan. Accepting that job meant he had to forfeit another offer of a fully paid PhD scholarship abroad. He reasoned that the sooner he started working, the sooner he could provide for his extended family. Thus, began his successful career as an Engineer at NNPC, spanning over 25 years, until his retirement in 2003 as the Manager of planning, NPDC division.

He got married to his very lovely wife, Mrs Mabel Nkechi Izuka in 1978 and their love story, which spanned 7 years of courtship and 42 years of marriage is blessed with 6 beautiful children and 12 grandchildren. Together, they modelled their love and support for each other against all odds, their very strong faith and trust in God and their readiness to help as many people as God brought their way, evidenced by their numerous works of charity both to the community and the church. He was all too aware of how God made him a success story despite his humble background and because of it, was always willing to help others. He also instilled in his children the importance of knowledge and education. Alongside his busy career in the oil industry, he still found time to write and is an author of four published books, as well as a contributory author of a faith based book, with a number of unpublished manuscripts.

He lived a very fulfilling life indeed and leaves behind a legacy that everyone who knew him would be very proud of, which include a foundation he was instrumental in setting up that would ensure the charitable works for which he was well known, would continue long after his death. Adieu daddy!!! You came, you played your part all so well and left behind your footprints in the sand for us to emulate. We love you and will miss you very much but are consoled by the knowledge that you're at peace, resting in God's bosom.
