Irene Buchanan Martin was the only daughter born to the late Alexander and Minnie Anne Buchanan. She was born on April 12, 1921 in Meriwether County. She had six brothers, all of which preceded her in death.

During her life, Irene gave birth to three daughters, two preceded her in death, Amy and Mary Ann.

She joined New Hope Baptist Church in Manchester, GA at an early age where she served faithfully until her health failed. She was a member of Loyal Club and Deaconess.

Mrs. Martin was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother. She worked at the Warm Springs Rehabilitation Center, Goody Products and Child Development Center of Manchester, GA during her life. She lived in Manchester, Ga until the Lord called her home on December 28, 2011.

Those left to cherish fond memories are: her daughter, Mamie (Milton) Chance of Newport News, VA; eight grandchildren: Michael Melson, Emanuel Melson, Christopher Melson, Bennie Melson, Wendy Melson, Sheila Bruno and Michelle Brightmon; fifteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-laws, Emily Ruth Buchanan and Eloise Weaver; and an abundance of relatives and special friends.
