At an early age, he joined St. James C.M.E. Church in Midway, AL where he confessed Christ. After being employed at Bullock County Board of Education for sixteen years, Irvin's illness caused him to retire.

Irvin leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted father, Charlie Calloway, Union Springs, AL; three brothers, Billy (Cynthia) Calloway, Virginia Beach, VA, Kenneth (Annie) Calloway and Christopher Smith, all of Union Springs, AL; five sisters, Daisy (Wilbert) Davis, Shirley (David) Streeter, Diane Johnson, Deborah (Kenneth) Jackson, Gretta Calloway, all of Union Springs, AL and Caroline Pugh, Columbus, GA; one God-brother, Rico Glasco, Columbus, GA; six nephews, Brandon Calloway, DeAndre Morris, Cortarious Jamar Morris, Courtney Braxton, Jederrian Calloway and Allen Johnson III, all of Union Springs, AL; six nieces, Melissa Davis, Tai Calloway, Shenna (Darcaless) Hooks, Taryn Morris, Shgay Johnson and Shakerria Calloway; four great-nephews, two great-nieces, one uncle, Otis (Elva Mae) Calloway, Midway, AL; one aunt, Winnie Owens, Union Springs, AL; one friend, Shelly Wilson; along with a host of other relatives and friends including his special friends, Ted Johnson, Andre Tarver, Rudy Dickerson, Chris Owens, Robert Reese, Albert James, Jimmy Mack, Tat Smith and Charles Walker.
