SPECIAL HEADMASTERS AWARD

I am going to give this special Headmasters Award, a sterling silver tray, a very special momento on which is engraved something remarkable.

It shows that this person began her work in our school when I was three years old and she continued it every day all her career with the same thoughtfulness for others, good humor and energy that she has today.   Maybe a shade less this year since she had to settle for second in the faculty student tennis tournament instead of first like last year.     Whose big white supercharged car rushes this way and that when students need to get somewhere?   The special consideration she has shown all of her colleagues is equal to her love for our students.                  For her wonderful good nature, her steadfast loyalty and the honor she has shown us all, I ask you -- send me Miss Chris!

(Special Award presented at Commencement on June 10, 1990.)

LADIES

With Love For Miss Chris Who Gave Us So Much

We cannot think of Hannah More without thinking of you, so fair. We wonder what our life would have been like without you there. The rules were tough to keep us girls doing right,

Preparing us for the world with our futures in sight.

Those were different times and it is how it had to be.

As we think about the rules we had, we can laugh you see, As we tell our family and friends about how it used to be.

How we love you Miss Chris!

Throughout those years you were an important part of our lives, You were there those teen years when we needed you so.

Your mere presence was enough to let us know, Good behavior and how things ought.to be done.

Manners, values, tradition and respect were all part of the sum.

We knew when you said ..."LADIES"... that you had something important to say,

Getting 125 girls quiet showed how much we loved and respected you, what may,

You were there to show your support, and how much you cared in every which way.

You touched our lives in so many ways as we learned the Hannah More way. We love you so!

For those of us who have had children, grandchildren and more,

We all can just imagine, what it must be like with 125 girls who must have pushed you to the core.

Yet year after year you came back for more, from 1946 to 1974. You supported those from Hannah More that went to St. Tim’s ,

We would not let you go so we followed you too, so we could see you, our adopted kin.

We love you so!

You had the job that no one would have wanted to do,

To close Hannah More after 142 long years and to make that move. To have to make a decision of what to do

Would have been like moving the Louvre.

How to quietly preserve our memories and traditions forever within those walls, As you and your staff made the campus sparkling and shiny for all.

You passed COC's White Glove Inspection with a touch

With the hope that the others would move in, would love the school as much. Oh, we love you!

You knew Hannah More's history and traditions too.

Now not a Halloween passes without us thinking of you,

And the poor teen girl whose boyfriend went off to the Civil War,

And died on his way back to Hannah More trying to see his love, which gave us our lore.

Her hair has turned gray now but she still continues to roam, From hall to hall in search of her Keith with a moan,

And when the wind blows if you listen hard, you hear coming through her teeth, That familiar sound . . . Keith, Keith, Keith.

Oh, we love you so.

You did not need credit for all that you did, you were usually working behind the

scenes.

But we all knew. There was one place you could usually be seen As we rushed to see you at the Hannah More store.

You kept the store stocked with things we needed and more.

You became our banker but our balances could not go below $25. It is hard to believe that we had $2.50 allowances to spend, Monogrammed items with Hannah More back then,

They helped keep the school and Billy/T eddy spirit high

So we would always remember Hannah More, Oh My. Your being there gave us more than our money could buy. Your warmth and love as we stopped to say "hi"

Oh, we loved you bye and bye.

As assistant to the Head for eighteen long years, for us was a great sell. You and your crew took care of the campus so well.

You both knew how teen girls loved to be on the run. Big snow storms disrupted it all but added to the fun,

As went across the road to the field and hills, and ended in the stream in the sun. We rode sleds and toboggans laughing all the way till we fell

Came back to campus for hot chocolate and had to be ready for the dinner bell. We love you!

The big snows always seemed to arrive at vacations or when there were big events to come.

So at vacations you can imagine the girls created quite a hum.

Snow removal equipment in Reisterstown was not something we had. To delay our vacations would have made a lot of girls sad.

But the snow brought us together without any pout,

As we worked hard to clear our roads for parents to rescue us out.

The girls celebrated one Jan 20, 1960 as the limousine pulled out of sight With one of our girls headed to the Kennedy Inauguration Ball that night. At graduation you said your goodbyes in between all the tears,

As you spent the summer preparing for the new girls to come in the next year. Graduates would come back to see you, but you never knew when.

For lots of reasons and to replace lost rings way back then. For Bob and me you helped planning our wedding, what may Not realizing what all would be involved that day.

With 6 feet of snow you didn't have much say,

Your incomparable team arranged to have the snow cleared out of the way. All of our guests came and were not affected that day.

The beauty of the snow with the dresses, lanterns, and flowers, made it quite a

day.

We should have remembered Hannah More's tradition of snow on important days

What more could we say than you and your staff took care of everything so we could have a perfect day,

And for that we thank you and love you in every way.

You were there for our daughters to carry on some of the traditions that we remember so well.

You gave them something special they will never forget 8€" You took the time to

show you cared which was swell,

You came to Sarah's tennis matches that we like to tell You cheered the girls on as you did us.

You kept that HMA spirit alive for them which was a plus. At St. Tim's it was a must.

Tennis kept you active and in such good shape. You never had to worry about a measuring tape.

It kept you thinking about strategy and kept you alert.

You had great tennis friends to play with so never had to worry about being a flirt.

Giving up tennis at eight-eight,

Was not something you wanted to do but best for your fate. 15-30-40-game

Not playing tennis is not the same. But all of us love you just the same!

Anyone at 90 who could survive us 1200 + girls from 1946-1974 and more and

are still on the run,

Have a mind so alert, be so physically active, and so much fun Who swims every day and is not afraid of her curls

Who still teaches health, dances and is not afraid of twirls, Every day works out in the gym

Is still helping others wherever and whenever she "kin". Who still has all the qualities we treasured so much.

All of us hope we can be like you and that your qualities have rubbed off to a touch

How can we thank someone who has given us so much! We love you, Miss Chris!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MISS CHRIS !!!!!!
