Sgt. Israel Garcia, age 24, passed away on July 13, 2008 in Wanat, Afghanistan while serving this nation. He was born on January 19, 1984 in Nayarit, Mexico. He moved to Long Beach, CA at age 2 with his family. He attended Lafayette Elementary, Jackie Robinson Academy and graduated from Long Beach Poly High School in 2002. He loved soccer so much that it was once his life but not his destiny. On his free time from work he loved to go paintball shooting and go-kart riding with his family and friends. Israel always wanted this country to know that he trained and fought so hard so his family, friends and the rest of the world could enjoy their freedom. Even though he was an american citizen he had a lot of mexican pride. Some of his favorite times were playing soccer, cooking ribs while listening to mexican music and drinking his favorite beer, Budweiser. He met the love of his life, Lesly, the summer of their senior year at a local pool. They had their first date at Java Lanes in Long Beach, Ca. They dated for 5 years until they were married on March 11, 2006. He joined the U.S. Army in October 2002. He was currently stationed in Vicenza, Italy with his wife ,Lesly. He was with the 173rd Airborne Infantry, Chosen Company. Afghanistan was his third deployment. He served twice in Iraq for a year each. He is survived by his wife Lesly Garcia, parents Victor and Maricruz Garcia, brother Ramsses Garcia and many more family members and friends.
