Walt and I were so lucky to have Jim and Jan in our lives. We are all campers and we were certainly looking forward to many more camping trips with them.....especially with their new camper. We still don't know how they managed to get into and out of their tent on top of their truck.....lol!! Jim was always entertaining us. He loved Harbor Freight and all of his many gadgets. He could build one heck of a fire! I'm from Clarion, so it was always so nice to get together with Jim and Jan and reminisce about the good ole days in and around Clarion. We're still in shock over his recent passing even though we know he is in a better place. Rest in peace Jim.....until we meet again! Think I probably received the last big smile and friendly wave last Monday evening as Jim zoomed by on his daily bike ride (Steve). We were shocked and saddened when he was gone early Tuesday morning from his earthly home in Juno Beach. Jim and Jan have been among the best of neighbors for several years. Jim, you will be missed by Jan and Angel and your boys most of all, but we will all miss you too. Promise to keep an eye on Jan for you. Hope you enjoy the Heavenly hunting. Steve and Paula Austin

I did not know Jim well, but he seemed to be a friendly guy. He always had a smile and a wave to Florida neighbors. He spent time in his “office” tinkering with whatever he did? Jim will be missed by many. Rest In Peace.

It was a pleasure to get to know Jim. He would fly by on his bike with that familiar smile and wave. Usually he had some witty comment also. We will always remember him working on some project in his little shed off the carport and sending a wave as we drove by. He will be missed. Rest In Peace Jim.

Dear Sweet Jan, Jim was surely a one-of-a kind man. Jack of all trades. Always there to offer help. Constantly on the move. Fiddling with something. Fixing. Creating. Nurtured by you. Jim and Jan, you will always be a pair in my heart!

I have a lifetime of memories with Jim ("Jimmy" when we were kids)...always the older cousin so he made us feel somehow safe and protected when we were with him. I remember standing at the intersection beside Jim's house,
waiting for the ice cream truck to come in the summertime, spending hours
watching his pet turtles, eating Tootsie rolls together on the lawn swing, learning how to pitch and how to hit a softball, cutting the sleeves off our sweatshirts and wearing them inside out in the summer, making forts out of
couch and chair cushions, pillow fights, catching lightning bugs and most of
all, getting that almost brotherly "pep" talk a few days before I got married and of course, that big broad grin.  Thanks, Jim, for all of those special memories and many more. Rest in peace, my sweet cousin.

His Life

A Short But Full Life

June 19, 2021
Ivan  (Jim) was born in Brookville, PA on June 26, 1951.  He was the only child of Ivan S. and Marcella Bauer Hook.  They preceded him in death 2015 and 2016.
Ivan attended Keystone High School and graduated in 1970.  He held many trade school certificates.  His love of cars led him to become a Master Technician.  He owned and operated Hook's Service in Knox, PA from 1978 to 1990.  He loved racing in the mud with his friends and built mud bloggers and a Willys Jeep.  He also was an avid hunter and never missed his deer.  He golfed until his body no longer would cooperate.
Ivan was a member of the Shippenville Volunteer Fire Department  and held the position of Fire Chief for several years.  He also was an EMT and an EMT Instructor and ran with the Shippenville Ambulance Company.
In 1990 he had the opportunity to take a position as Master Technician with Merchant Tire in Midlothian, VA and moved his family there in August.  He became a mentor to many young men and women and molded them to follow in his footsteps.  He was promoted to Trainer in 2010 and taught technicians throughout the state of Virginia.  In 2014 he was asked to join the Risk Management Team of the mother company, TBC, in their head office in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.  He moved to Juno Beach, FL, where he resided until his death.  He retired in June 2020.
Ivan (Jim) married Janis Lynn Graff on November 25, 1972 and she survives.  They had two sons together- Marcus James who resides in Richmond, VA (Chesterfield County) and Todd Andrew who resides in Colonial Heights, VA
Ivan could be found in his Man Cave tinkering with his Hamm Radios and his many projects.  He was into total survival and was ready to take on any disaster at any notice.
Ivan will be sadly missed by all his many family and friends and especially by Jan and his precious little Yorkie, Angel.
If you would like to send a memorial gift, Jim would want it to be to the Shippenville Volunteer Fire Department or to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Knox PA.
There will be a memorial service at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Knox, PA, at the convience of the family and where he will be laid to rest.
