His Life

Alfred Jack Henderson died Thursday, March 29, 2012 in Durham, North Carolina.  He was born in Rome, Georgia Sunday, September 18, 1927 and lived in Lindale, Georgia until 1977 when he moved to West Point, Georgia.

Jack graduated from Darlington School and Murdoch’s Cotton School.  He attended Clemson University and Georgia Technical Institute.  He proudly served his country in the United States Navy.  He Jack was retired from West Point Stevens where he was the assistant manager of the cotton department. Jack was a leader in the Lindale community and was active in the Boy Scouts of America, Pepperell PTA, and the LinValley Country Club.  He was active in the Lindale United Methodist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir and served as a steward and treasurer for many years.  After moving to West Point, he served as associate delegate to the North Georgia Conference for 4 years with the West Point First United Methodist Church, where he also served as song leader for his Sunday School class and as a member of the administrative board, van ministry, and delivered meals on wheels. Jack was a member of the West Point Investors Club and was an avid golfer.  He enjoyed hiking and completed much of the southern portion of the Appalachian Trail. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Joanne Kellett Henderson, his parents Alfred Newton and Marble Smith Henderson, and his brother James Leon Henderson.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Grace Nichols Henderson, Durham, NC; his children Ellen H. Garrard, Rome, GA., Jean Henderson, Denver, CO, and Tim Henderson, East Point, FL; his step-children Gaines (Jeannie) Nichols, Chickamauga, GA and Gail Nichols (Bob) Werstlein, Durham, NC; his grandchildren Ashley (Ian) Griffin and  Hayley (Bobby) Howerton, Rome, GA;  Jason Zichterman, Pueblo, CO, Patrick Zichterman, Arvada, CO, Brad Henderson, Ridgecrest, CA, and Katie (Conner) Meadows, Madison, AL;  Chris (Ginger) Nichols, Joanne (Andy) Tinker, Melissa (Mike) Smith, Whitney (Ryan) Johnson, and Kylie (John) White.  Jack also was blessed with 11 great-grandchildren.
