It is actually hard where to start from. I shall start from the beginning. I have known Jacob Oba for almost 34 years. This dates back to College days. In College, we knew each other casually - just as classmates. our friendship really took off after he relocated to Trinidad & Tobago. I have been living there before his arrival. Seeing that we were fellow countrymen and same set in Medical school, there lies the beginning of a friendship that lasted this his early departure from this world. Even though we worked in different hospitals, we made time to visit each other and build a meaningful relationship. i left Trinidad in 1993 but we maintained contact throughout the time. As fate would have it when I was in the Republic of Ireland doing my postgraduate he came to Ireland and we actually worked together in the same hospital while he was sitting his Fellowship exam. After he returned to Trinidad we made sure we kept in touch.
Over those years, I found him to be a very hard working man. He is dependable and reliable. He loved life and enjoyed life. He was able to share his problems with me as I shared mine. He looked after our house in Trinidad. He is family oriented and loved his children. He will go to any length to help anyone who needed help. I have stayed in his house during my visits to Trinidad. I met him and his family (not knowing) for the last time in 2016. Always jovial and keen sense of humor. He was well known and respect in San Fernando where he resided. My last contact with him was over Christmas and he still expressed how he cherished our friendship. I have come to love him as a brother and I will surely miss him. Rest in peace dear friend.

Truly sad
May The comfort of God help his family during this difficult time , May time heal his family’s heart and memories comfort their soul.
We extend our deepest sympathy
I have come to realise that nothing in life prepare us for losing someone we love - nothing
However, what we once enjoyed we can never lose , those special memories will always bring a smile .
I pray for Allah to be with our friend in his home going.
May his soul rest in peace

His Life
February 11, 2019

Dr Jacob Adegoke Oba affectionately known as Goke was born 18th February 1960 in Ode-Ekiti in Ondo State Nigeria. He attended Ode-Ekiti High School where he was an exceptional student. He later went to Federal Givernment College, Ogbomoso in Oyo State for his Advanced Level studies. Goke began his medical student training in University of Ibadan in 1980 and graduated with an MBBS degree in 1985. His path in life took him all the way to the Caribbean where he did his postgraduate training in Trinidad & Tobago as a General Surgeon. He spent a few years in the Republic of Ireland where he did his postgraduate surgical Fellowship exam. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He later returned back to San Fernando General Hospital in Trinidad where he worked as Consultant General Surgeon until he departed this world on 5th February 2019.

For those who have been privileged to have met and know him, he was fondly remembered as a nice, gentle and friendly man. Though quiet but was an amicable person and a pleasure tom  be around. He loved life, lived life and enjoyed life. He was kind and helpful sometimes to a fault.

He was survived by his lovely wife Omolade, ex-wife Remi, one aunt, one sister, three brothers a number of nephews and nieces and five adorable children.

He will surely be missed. Rest in peace Goke.

Adieu

Oba is one of those people you really don’t forget . We were both in group B82 at the College of Medicine Univeristy of Ibadan. He was smart, quiet , likeable with a dry sense of humor . Although our paths did not cross after school I know that he went on to do great things as a husband, father, family man and physician.May the God of comfort - strengthen , comfort and give peace to his wife , children , family and friends during this difficult time.
