Obituary

July 4, 2012

JAMAL DURANT, son of the late Mary Francis Durant and Peter Davis, was born on July 7, 1971 in Bronx, New York.  He departed this life on Friday, December 2, 2011.

Jamal received his education in the New York City Public School System.  After graduating from Truman High School, Jamal attended John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

Jamal had a quiet and loving spirit.  Very much a serious guy, Jamal also had a great sense of humor.  He loved to play practical jokes and telephone pranks on his family.

He often worked as an Independent DirecTV Consultant.  Jamal had many hobbies and vocations.  Known as a “jack of all trades,” Jamal would cut your hair, adjust your cable TV, fix your plumbing problems and clean your house, all in one visit (whether he was asked to do so or not).  He loved order.  Cleanliness was next to Godliness according to Jamal.

Jamal found special pleasure in spending time with his kids, family and friends.  Often giving advice and wisdom to anyone who would listen.  Facebook friends received encouragement and updates often with a spiritual twist. His personality and spirit touched people wherever he went.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his father, Peter Davis of Georgia; three children, Ligaya Berry, Lea Berry and Jamal Durant, Jr. all of Glen Burnie, MD; two brothers, Tyrone Carter of Bishopville, SC and Spencer Davis of Atlanta, GA; one sister, Shawana (Ndidi) Igbogbahaka of Mooresville, NC; uncle, Martin (Mable) Durant of Lynchburg, SC; aunts, Maggie Joe of Bronx, NY, Betty Dabney of Baltimore, MD and Rebecca Edwards of Lynchburg, SC; best friend, El-Raheem Williams of New York; special friend, Anna Carey of New York; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
