James Edward Allen, 72, a longtime resident of Granville county, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at his home.

A native of Rowan County, the son of the late James Barney and Mabel Bare Allen.  He was a member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church, a member of the Oxford Lodge # 122 AM FM, a charter member of Amran Temple and owner of Allen’s Frameworks and Gallery for 23 years. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 5, 2011 in the Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by Rev. Cam Ford.  Entombment will be in Meadowview Memorial Park.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Ruby Hampton Allen of the home, two daughters Charlotte Allen Draper (Donald) of Raleigh, Kimberly Allen of Roxboro, three grandchildren, James Edward Vaughan and Crystal Danielle Dunn, both of Roxboro, Kelly Nicole Vaughan of Epsom, a great grandson, Nathan Owen Snickles of Epsom and a brother Kenneth R. Allen (Amalie) of Gastonia.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 – 11:00 AM Friday, August 5, 2011 prior to the funeral service at the Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill, 101 Mason Farm Road, Chapel Hill, North Carolina 27517.

James was a great friend. He worked at JFD with Bill and we all camped together at Cape Hatteras years ago.
He framed so many pictures for me. We will treasure our memories. Love from Sylvia & Bill Cawthorne

Mr. Allen was a fine man and a good Christian man who will be missed by all who knew him. May his wonderful legacy be carried on by his loving family and many extended family members. God bless you all as you carry on his legacy with fond and wonderful memories. God Bless
