James Balmer, 65, a resident of 6529 Highway 15 North, Oxford, NC, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2011 in Hock Family Pavilion in Durham, NC.

A native of Northampton County, the son of the late Paul Howard and Neta Vaughan Balmer, a member of Tungsten Baptist Church, retired from Harriet & Henderson Yarns and presently employed with North Carolina Department of Corrections.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, December 27, 2011 in the Tungsten Baptist Church by Rev. Sam Brewer.  Burial will be in church cemetery.

Surviving is his wife of 46 years, Patsy Dean Balmer of the home, a daughter, Donna Balmer of the home, a son, Bobby Balmer of the home, 3 sisters, Janice Allen of Henderson, Mary Bentley of Oxford, Elizabeth Bullock (Roger) of Butner, 4 brothers, Johnny Balmer (Judy) of Oxford, Donald Balmer of Four Oaks, Paul Balmer Jr. of Bullock, Richard Balmer of Henderson and a devoted pet (Sugar).  He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Pauline Newby and Emma Miles.

Visitation will be held from 7:00 – 8:30 PM, Monday, December 26, 2011 in the Eakes Funeral Home, Inc. in Oxford, NC. and other times at the home.

James will truly be missed. He was a great person, friend, and co-worker to all at Correction Enterprises. He never had anything bad to say about anybody. Always a super nice person to work with!!

I was Mr Balmer's Sgt when he first started working for the Dept of Corrections.Mr Balmer was always the professional,earning the respect of the staff as well as the inmates.He was a dependable ,hardworking and loyal officer & i was proud to have been able to call him my friend.
