You can remember him and only that he is gone, or you can cherish his memory and let it live on.
  • 49 years old
  • Born on August 8, 1960 in Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada.
  • Passed away on April 26, 2010 in Burlington, Ontario, Canada.

James (Jim) Michael Barrett passed away Monday, April 26th, 2010 suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 49 in Burlington, Ontario.  He leaves behind his wife and soul mate, Beth, and three beloved children, Steeley, Taylor, and Hunter.  James is a proud step-father and mentor to Leandra and Lionel and their life partners, Nelson and My Phuong, as well as “Grandpa Jim” to Ocean.  He is survived by his mother, Lillian (Frank) and brother, John (Laura).

On Wednesday, May 5th, we celebrated Jim's life at Crosswinds Golf and Country Club, it was a beautiful day, the sun was shining and many people came to celebrate with us.  Beautiful tributes were presented by his wife Beth, his daughters Steeley and Taylor, his step-daugther Leandra and his brother John, also three of his best friends, Paul McParlan, Steve Smith and Ron Clarke.  Jim was loved by all and was a "best friend" to many.  Having Jim in our lives has changed us forever, he will always be in our hearts and the memory of his smile, passion for life and caring spirit for others will live on forever.

Though his smile is gone forever, and his hand I cannot touch.
I still have many memories of the one I loved so much.
Your memory is my keepsake, with which I'll never part.
God has you in His keeping. I have you in my heart.
Sadly missed, but never forgotten.

We thought of you with love today,
But that is nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday
And days before that, too.
We think of you in silence.
We often speak your name.
Now all we have is memories
And your picture in a frame.
Your memory is our keepsake
With which we'll never part.
God has you in his keeping.
We have you in our heart.

Heavy are our hearts today,
Memory brings you back once more
To the time when you were with us,
To the happy days of yore.

Always in our hearts.

I can't believe 5 years have passed. Jamie you were the age I am now
I always remember how tall you were when you came to visit us in Newfoundland when you were in your teens. I hope all your loved ones have found peace in the wonderful memories that you have provided for them and take comfort in the fact you were a great friend, dad, and son to them all........Val Hodder ( Uncle Dave's daughter)

Wow 4 years really goes by fast.
I remember when we went to Myrtle Beach in my TR7.
We stopped and visited your uncle Donny in Washington D C on the way, and the crazy horse saloon. Man we had some great times. Miss you bud.

Dear Jim-

A lot has happened since you've been gone. There are two beautiful granddaughters now, and life is unfolding with love mixed with all its beauty and complexity. I'm sure you know all this, and more, much more.

Softly the leaves of memory fall. Gently I gather and treasure them all. Unseen, unheard you are always near, so missed, so loved, so very dear. No longer in our lives to share. But in our hearts you’re always there.

RIP Jim, we miss you and love you.

Thank you for all the kind words and thoughts on this tough day. My dad will forever be in my heart and is the guiding light to get through each day. I cannot quite fathom that it has already been two years. I miss him when I am sad, I miss him when I am lonely but I miss him most of all when I am happy.

This quote was sent to me and has brought me much comfort today and I would like to share it with all of you that are struggling with your sorrow.

When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight. ~Kahlil Gibran

It is hard to believe that a year has passed. We had many talks, usually when outside doing yard work. Even now I keep thinking that Jim will come across the street to talk about fishing, golf, or more serious matters. He is greatly missed.

I still have trouble believing Jim is not around. He was a new friend but we had already started making memories. I was looking forward to making more because Jim is someone who comes along rarely in one's life. I miss you Jim. God Bless Beth.
