Proud United States Marine.
Husband.
Father.
Grandfather.
Friend.
Outdoorsman.
Storyteller.

James has moved on, as is God’s will. We are positive that he has been granted a place of peace with family & friends. A place of quiet and beautiful forest. A place where the streams are clear and the trout are fat & running. A place where the deer and turkey are always in season. This is his place. His Heaven .

We know he is waiting for us, stream-side…with a story and a smile.

We will remember him forever.

Obituary

James Andrew Callahan, 74, of Wyoming, passed away peacefully at home on November 8, 2022.

James was born on December 2, 1947, to the late James A. Callahan and Jeanne M. Callahan.  After James graduated from Bishop McDevitt High School, he went on to attend King’s College.
Post college James joined the Marine Corp. After serving on both coasts, he was discharged at the rank of Sargent. He later retired from employment at Toshiba, after many years.

James is survived by his best friend, and loving and devoted wife of 37 years, Marti Shafer Callahan.
He is preceded in death by his grandson, Jacob Busch; his parents, James and Jeanne Callahan; brother, Bob; best friend, Lenny.
James leaves behind his son, James Callahan (his wife, Kristin); his daughter, Amy Callahan; and his granddaughter, Ava Busch.
‘Cal’ was most at home with his best buddy, Charlie (the dog), and outdoors. He loved all things fishing, hunting, and nature-related. He was lucky to share all of these hobbies with his wife and partner-in-crime, Marti.
James always preferred the simple side of life; his final wishes are no different; he definitively requested – no viewing or funeral services.
However, in lieu of such occasions, his family will be hosting A celebration of life event sometime close to December 2, his birthday.   Details TBA, ASAP.
We have constructed A memorial web page where family and friends may leave messages of condolence, funny stories about Jim, or any kind words wished.

James, while I am writing these words I am picturing you with your candid smile. I truly enjoyed our jokes and giggles. You and Marti will be the only ones knowing the nick name my dad uses to call me. You will be missed. I really hope we can meet someday!
Enjoy the light… I am sure you are in peace.

Big Cal. You sir, will be greatly missed in this world. James Andrew Callahan made a lasting impression on me from the very first time I met him as a young man. He was the kind of man that could say a thousand words without ever having to speak. It wasn’t that he was trying to be intimidating, or that he wasn’t approachable. It was just how you felt it in your heart, just how much everyone around him respected, loved, and looked up to him. Then when you got to know him, and have conversations with him, you also got to see the huge heart he had inside. My children grew up right along side of his grandchildren. He always made us feel so welcome at family gatherings and BBQ’s. James is a man that had my respect and admiration from day one because he was the real deal. He was everything a man should be in this world. He was an honorable man, a husband, a father, a grandfather, and so much more to all the people whose lives he has touched. I pray that his beautiful family finds peace and comfort in these difficult times. So, with a truly heavy heart… I am lucky to have known you and thankful to you for allowing us to be a part of your life. From the bottom of my heart, may you rest in peace good sir, and god bless.

Sincerely,
Brian Malet
