Jim Cameron was a graduate of the University of Minnesota and a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He owned hisaudio-visual production business, Cameron and Company, providing speech , visual production support for sales and marketing meetings for large corporations in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. His main clients were, Pillsbury/Green Giant, Land O Lakes and Cargill.

Jim retired 1994 and turned over his business to his son and partners. Jim sold his house in St. Paul and moved to the Keys. He bought Big Pine Storage and his home in Eden Pines subdivision, Big Pine Key. He and his wife, have been residents of Big Pine Key for 25 years.

Jim has been a member of the Lower Keys Chamber. He also was a member of the Rotary. He was in charge of the Rotary Christmas lights along US 1 highway until 2017. He organized the volunteers to clean the ornaments, re-bulb them and have the work crews to put them on the poles and take them down from the poles. With Jim’s good spirit and encouragement and great volunteers, the Rotary did excellent work.

Jim served six years on the Monroe County Planning Commission.

Jim’s favorite job was being ‘Jammin Jim’ for US 1 Radio every Saturday, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. He loved the music and he loved to “jam”. He loved all the people of US 1 Radio; they were his joy.

Jim and his wife were ushers and also house managers for Tennessee Williams Theater for a combined total of 25 years. He loved the theater; we had wonderful volunteers. There are many fond memories.

Jim’s absolute passion was his recumbent bicycle. Most all the Big Pine Key and No Name Key residents have seen Jim riding up and down the neighborhood streets every day. He has ridden a total of 65,803 miles since 04/21/2003 to 02/25/2019. He loved riding around Big Pine, stopping to talk to friends, or get the latest deal at CVS, or Walgreens and Bealls. He was in love with life; most everyday was a joy. He loved to help people and to be of service to his community. His joyful spirit is missed by his family and community.
