Funeral Notice

James Edwin (Ed) Oliver

James Edwin (Ed) Oliver - age 80 of Marietta passed away July 4, 2015. Ed was a native of Atlanta, Georgia, attended West Fulton High School, served in the United States Navy and attended Georgia State. Upon his discharge from the Navy he went to work for the Atlanta Coca Cola Bottling Company and was (at the time) the youngest route driver ever hired. He rose through the ranks at Coca Cola to become a Corporate Account Chain Manager. After 33 years at Coke, he retired and later began a second career with General Wholesale Company where he retired after 25 years as a Corporate Chain Account Manager.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents David Carlan Oliver and Nanny Louise Melton Oliver; his son, David Fredrick (Ricky) Oliver; daughter, DeAnne Marie Oliver; and brother Thomas (Tommy) Royce Oliver.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Mahle Oliver; daughter, Cindy LaGesse (Dan); son, Jimmy Oliver; brother, Ronnie Oliver (Brenda); grandchildren, Chris Fleming and Jason Fleming (Kym); great-Grandchildren Madeline and Sarah Fleming; Sophie, Abbie, and Charlie Fleming; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 1:00 pm at David Struempf Funeral Home Chapel in Austell, GA with Pastor Terry Phillips officiating.

Interment followed at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery, Mableton, Georgia.
