James Edwin Smith, age 73, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at home surrounded by his beloved family. Jim was born on March 1, 1949 in Ridley Park, PA to parents George and Dora Smith. Jim, affectionally known as “Potts”, was one of five children having 2 sisters and 2 brothers.

On May 9, 1970, he married his high school sweetheart, Patricia (nee McCarthy), and they ultimately settled and raised their family in Havertown, PA  before retiring to Swedesboro, NJ. 

Jim spent the majority of his career as a machinist and then manager at the United States Mint in Philadelphia. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed golfing and traveling, especially taking cruises. He was known for his sense of humor and quick wit. He was a proud father and doting grandfather.

Jim was predeceased by his parents, and siblings Robert Smith and Theresa (nee Smith) Anderson. His survivors include, his wife Patricia, his daughter Jacquelyn (nee Smith) Heiart and her husband Scott; his son Dr. Brian Smith and his wife Stephanie, and his four cherished grandchildren, Ryan and Benjamin Heiart and Sophia and Adeline Smith. He is also survived by his sister Anne (nee Smith) Wall and brother George Smith. 

Relatives & friends are invited to attend his Liturgy of Christian Burial to be offered on Monday, April 4, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. at The Catholic Community of the Holy Spirit, 17 Earlington Avenue, Mullica Hill, NJ.  The family will welcome visitors at the Church beginning at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery 1600 S. Sproul Rd, Springfield, PA.
