James was always known to me as 'Fred". He was a close friend and school mate of my older brother Bob (class of about 1938) and hung around our house (in Verona,N.J.) frequently during his high school days where he met and dated my cousin, Beverly Bremer, whom he was destined to marry later. During those years he regularly joined my dad, brother and I to sing barbershop quartet music-we had wonderful times!
After his submarine service in WWII and attending college in Colorado Fred visited us in Delray Beach FL where our family had moved in the mid 1940's. For awhile he lived on a small sailboat anchored in the intercoastal waterway in Delray and worked as a sign painter. In time Fred resumed contact with Beverly, married and started a family in Delray. In 1947 I started in college and only saw Fred on visits home during holidays. The highlight of each such occasion for me was the opportunity to get the quartet together for a few of our old cherished songs.
The last time I saw Fred my wifw and I visited him at his mobile home in Brooksville maybe fifteen or more years ago. He was very gracious and cheerful as always.
Fred was such a wonderful friend, generous, soft-spoken, sincere and honest to a fault. Many thanks to his family for taking such good care of Fred during his last years.

Bless you all, Bill Wharton
