Jerry, remember all the fun times we had on the Engineering golf trips, Anne and I enjoyed the time with you and Mickey. I will miss the times we had with our senior golfing friends and the interesting conversations we had when car pooling to the golf course. You were always a good friend and will be truly missed! Dick

Jerry and Mickey you will always be in our hearts. We remember our golf buddies on the three day golf outings when Jerry always made sure there was a Manhattan or two for us. Bless you both, you were good friends.

Jerry G Ertz - Obituary

January 19, 2019

James G. (Jerry) Ertz

1929-2019

James G. (Jerry) Ertz, 89, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 in Carmel, IN. Jerry was born April 3, 1929 in Nanticoke, PA the son of John and Mary (Dougherty) Ertz (deceased). He moved to Reading at the age of 12, graduated from Reading High School in June 1946 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was then stationed in Japan during the occupation at the end of World War II and later served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve as a Sargent for six years. To advance his professional career, he took engineering courses at Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute and the University of Connecticut. In 1991 he retired as the manager of the plant engineering department at Carpenter Technology in Reading.

He was a loving husband and father, and his family meant everything to him. Jerry was a role model and was an integral part of his children’s lives serving as coach, scoutmaster, athletic booster, band supporter, and avid fan. Jerry also had a huge impact on his nine grandsons, often seen in the stands watching their athletic events, attending school functions, and sharing his wisdom during engaging conversations. He was a long-time, active member of St. Ignatius Loyola Parish in Whitfield. Following his retirement, Jerry became an enthusiastic golfer, enjoying outings with his beloved wife, Mickey, and their loving friends, and with his fellow CarTech retirees.

He was predeceased by his wife Mildred (Mickey) Jablonski after 50 years of marriage, and his three brothers, Frank Ertz, Jack Ertz and Donald Ertz. He is survived by four children, David, husband of Carol (Ryan), Yarmouth, ME; Diane, wife of Charles Stiles, Wilmington, IL; Doreen, wife of Allen Ruffner, Noblesville, IN; and Douglas, husband of Debbie (Holland), Alamo, CA. He is also survived by nine grandsons and three great grandchildren.

A public memorial service in the Reading area is being planned for a time in February and will be announced at a later date. In honor of his memory, donations should be sent in his name to St. Ignatius Loyola Memorial Fund, 2810 St. Albans Dr., Reading, PA19609.
