This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, Professor James Hakim. We will remember him forever.
James Hakim was a Professor of Medicine and past Chair of Medicine at the University of Zimbabwe (UZ). He was an adjoint Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado, Denver. He served as Director of the UZ Clinical Research Centre and Site Leader of the Milton Park Clinical Research Site of the UZ-CTRC, CTU. He was the Principal Investigator of the Zimbabwe MEPI and Junior Faculty Research Training awards.
Dr Hakim did medicine at the University of Makerere in Uganda and specialized in internal medicine at the University of Nairobi, Kenya and the Royal Colleges of Physicians, UK; with further specializations in Aachen, Germany; Newcastle, Australia and the University of Cape Town. Dr Hakim was an active clinician with interest in HIV/AIDS preventive and therapeutic research including co-infections. He was a member of the CROI committee and was a committee member of the Glasgow HIV Therapy Conference, International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA) and HIV INTEREST Conference. He was a member of the Governing Council of the International AIDS Society (IAS). Dr Hakim maintained successful collaborations with US, UK, Continental European and African partners in research and capacity development. He has more than 150 publications and international communications.
