As a young newlywed back in 1976, I was invited that summer day along with my mother-in-law Alla Frantz, to visit Jim and Kay Dewhirst at their Whittier home for lunch and a leisurely dip in their backyard swimming pool. As I wear contact lenses to correct my nearsightedness, I had removed them before frolicking in the pool, lest I lose one or both lenses in the water. Of course, I could only see objects and people close up. Jim, who was at the farthest end of the pool, had asked if I was able to see "larger objects" clearly without my contacts in. I commented back to him, "Well, Dr. Jim, I can see you very well!" His answer back was, "OMG, she's a Frantz, all right!". We all shared a pretty good laugh. Dr. Jim was always very personable and made you feel at ease. Gary and I enjoyed many family gatherings with Jim and Kay, along with my in-laws, Alla and Norm Frantz throughout the years. Jim will be greatly missed; but have many wonderful memories that will help ease his passing from our lives.
