Jim and I as busy people didn't do a lot together as of late, but we talked quite a bit. Jim being my eldest brother we talked about everything from God, sports, politics, fixing our houses, TV shows, his job,, my job,etc...matter a fact the last thing I texted him was a pic of a Commodore 64 that I found while he was in the hospital at a job site that ties me back to 1984 when I got my first one and him back 1987 when he came home for a summer between Jr Sr year. I imagine we would have but alas he never saw the pic.  I think the worst part of Jim not being here will be not being able to share the cool, exciting, things in my life with him as I have done the past 51 years of my 51 year life.

Jim was a good uncle to my children from helping when I was a single father, to taking my children to work with him when they were younger at Sinclair because he knew they find it cool. He tried to get a computer class started at my kids elementary school, but the school itself had just started and weren't ready to go that route.

Interesting side note, while we were going thru some stuff at his house (Jim was a pack rat) we found a letter didn't send me when I was in South Korea, it may have been useful back then but today it today it was just really cool to read

In 2016, when my husband and I moved back home, Jim didn't have his license and we would drive him around to the store, to run errands and to family holidays. This is the first year that Christmas isn't in walking distance that I'm not taking him to a holiday. It would have been because it's the first year that he's driving since I was a kid, but instead he's not going to be there at all. Miss you, Jim. Hope heaven is all that we've been told, with the streets of gold, angles singing and all. I hope it's pain free.

My uncle, James Horton, was more than just an uncle. He was a friend and a confidant. He was always there to talk to me and he helped me out around the house when I grew up and got married. From helping me move from my rental house to the house my husband and I own, he was always there for me. He is and will be greatly missed by his family.

James "Jim" Howard Horton passed away on December 1, 2021 at 12:56 pm in Dayton, Ohio. Born on May 25, 1965 in Fort Worth, Texas, Jim was the second of six children to Rodney and Betty Horton. Jim served four years in the United States Army, during which time he went to Fort Campbell, KY and Germany, which he spoke of often. Proceeded in death by his grandparents, Mary and Marion Main, Irvin and Lilian Howard, his parents, Rodney and Betty Horton, and his aunts, Carole Horton and Francis Rickard (David). Jim is survived by his uncle, Jerry (Mary), his siblings, Marie, Kathy, Dave (Sherrie), John (Bernadeth), Sam (Brittany), his nieces and nephews William, Michael (Linda), Anna (Nicholas), Andrew, Asha, Isaac, Barak, and great nieces and nephews, Corbyn, Kaitlyn, Aleksandr, Henley and Emily. Jim was a teacher and he loved teaching, he taught as an adjunct professor at Sinclair Community College for many years in their technology department and in May 2021, he took a job at the Dayton Corp as a technology instructor. Jim was willing to help anyone who needed it, no matter what the cost was to him, if he thought the person honestly was in need. This extended to his family, helping them around their houses and running errands as needed. Jim was deeply loved and cared about by his family and will be truly and dearly missed. Jim believed in a life after his earthly one, an eternal life in Heaven with his Heavenly Father which is where he is today. The family appreciates the thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

A memorial service for Jim will be planned and details will be shared as they become available.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jim's name to Miami Valley Bible Church. The church will take the donations in Jim's name and give the money to missionaries.
