Man arrested in connection with North Wilkesboro garage owner’s death

A man was found dead in his North Wilkesboro apartment and a man, police suspect is connected with the killing, was arrested after being found hiding in the basement of a home in the Cricket community.

James Ray Bowlin, 57, was found dead Friday in a building housing apartments and a garage at1419 West Park Lanein North Wilkesboro - located next toRotaryPark- according to reports. Bowlin lived in the building and was the owner and operator of the garage, police say.

Law enforcement officers from the North Wilkesboro Police Department, Wilkes County Sheriff's Department and the North Carolina SBI located and apprehended Kevin Wayne Snyder, 46, at around 9:30 p.m. on Friday at a residence on Boone Trail in the Cricket Community. Snyder was located hiding in the basement of the house.

Snyder was transported to the Wilkes County Jail when he is being held without bond.

Wilkes EMS received a call at 12:52 a.m., Friday, after someone reported a medical emergency.

Bowlin's body was found in his living quarters inside the building, which houses the garage and some apartments, according to reports. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:02 a.m., Friday, and his body was sent toWakeForestUniversityBaptistMedicalCenterinWinston-Salemfor an autopsy.

The death is believed to be the result of a domestic dispute. According to police reports, Bowlin was stabbed in the neck.

A native ofMichigan, Bowlin has lived inWilkesCountyfor about 30 years.

Snyder is being held without bond in theWilkes CountyDetention Center.

Mr. James Ray "Jim" Bowlin, age 57, of North Wilkesboro died Friday, November 8, 2013 at his home. A memorial service will be held Saturday 2:00 PM, November 16, 2013 at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with Rev. Sherrill Wellborn officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Bowlin was born October 30, 1956 in Berrien, MI to Earl and Ruth Bowlin.  He was owner/operator of West Park Automotive.  He also, worked on the NASCAR circuit.   Mr. Bowlin was a member of Lewis Fork Baptist Church. He is survived by: one son, Jason Ray Bowlin Clark of Wyoming, MI; four grandchildren, Christopher Clark, McKenzie Clark, Riley Clark, Tyler Clark all of Grand Rapids, MI; two sisters, Patsy Bowlin of Three Rivers, MI, Hope Landers of Red Bay, AL; two brothers, Wayne Bowlin and wife, Linda of Jones, MI, Jackie Dixon of Bear Creek, AL; four nieces, two nephews, four great-nieces and one great-nephew.
