Jim was such a dear friend of mine for over four decades. We served together as public servants at the Alabama Public Service Commission. Jim decided to move back to his native Pennsylvania. We were forever close over the years, enjoying many good times together. My heart is so very sad. I loved Jim dearly and will miss him.

I’ll never forget mr. Jim, he was for sure the greatest neighbor I’ll ever have. I’m surprised he put up with me as a little kid. I remember running over to his house when I was upset, and all I can remember is how sweet he was. I hope I can always remember the memories he was generous enough to give to me, as well as how he did it with a smile on his face.

Our good neighbor Jim at OFC in Devon will never be forgotten. My twins and I loved our impromptu visits with him. There was always a story about his time serving our country in the Army all over the world, at Valley Forge Academy or raising his children. He delighted hearing stories of my twins, and was the person my young son wanted to live with when he “ran away” with a suitcase full of clean under clothes! Mr Jim saw thru the little things and always cared about the things that mattered - living life to the fullest! I loved sharing home-made meals with him, it was the least I could do for the joy and warmth he distilled in our hearts. Rest In Peace Jim.

     James was born on  December 27,1936 to Lottie and Edward Komer of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania the first of two  children.  He graduated from Langley High School and attended both Carnegie Mellon and Clemson University. 


   James joined the U.S Army in 1958 and served his country for twenty-one years. He served all over the world including tours in Vietnam, the Philippines and Izmir, Turkey .

His engineering specialty garnered many services medals including: 

Meritorious Service Medal,

Joint Service Commendation Medal

Senior Parachutist Badge

Bronze Star Medal

National Defense Service Medal

Vietnam Service Medal

Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal


   After retiring from the Army he also served as a professor at the Valley Forge Military Academy encouraging young men to become their best selves.


   Continuing to serve in his community of thirty years at Old Forge Crossing in Devon, Pennsylvania he was on many boards and using his love of engineering he helped make continuous improvements.


     James took his last tour on August 7, 2021 after living a full, vibrant life full of love, leadership and service.

   

   He leaves his son K.C. and Lisa, Lori Lee his daughter, and his brother David and Vicki to carry on his legacy of keeping days filled with love, keeping a smile on your face and a song in your heart.
