His Life

Mr. McLain was born Friday, April 21, 1922, in Roanoke, Alabama, the son of the late Annie Rebecca Ozley and James Edwin McLain.  He graduated from West Point High School in 1939, and attended Alabama Polytechnic, now Auburn University, until going into the U.S. Army Air Corps.   After finishing basic training in Miami Beach, Florida, he attended and graduated from flight navigation school in San Marcus, Texas in 1944. Mr. McLain served as assistant navigator aboard a B-29 stationed in Guam and flew missions over many major cities in Japan.  In 1966, he started a dairy farm and then retired.  He attended Spring Road Christian Church.

Mr. McLain is survived by 2 step daughters, Sandra Tyson Jessup (Rusty) of Riverside, Alabama and Debbie Tyson Pitts of West Point; 2 sons, John R. McLain (Connie) and Phillip J. McLain both of Troup County, Georgia; 2 stepson, Ronald G. Tyson (Margie) of Marietta, Georgia and Harold Daniel “Dan” Tyson (Gale) of West Point, Georgia; 2 grand children; 9 step grand children; 13 step great grandchildren and 2 step great grand children.  He was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Faye Mclain and his second wife Lodell Hammett Tyson McLain and his son James Edwin McLain, Jr.
