James Paul “Jim” Hatcher, Jr. passed away 3 weeks before his 89th birthday. Jim was born in Augusta, Ga. He was a graduate of Richmond Academy and Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now Auburn University, where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Jim owned and operated the Putt-Putt Golf Course on 3rd Avenue South as well as in Midfield, AL; Anniston, AL; and Tulsa, OK. He also owned Putt America Golf in Roebuck, AL. He brought many people joy throughout his 40 years in business. Jim loved music, tennis, running, riding his motorcycle, and trading in the stock market. Jim was a member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church where he enjoyed being a co-teacher in a men’s Sunday school class. 

He is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, Bess Hale Hatcher; son, James Paul “Jay” Hatcher lll and his wife Sue Ellen of Greensboro, AL; son, Stephen Hale Hatcher; and granddaughter, Haley Hatcher. 

The family would like to thank Chekiyah Hollins, Jennifer Ford, and SouthernCare New Beacon Hospice for their loving care. 

His memorial service will be held in the chapel at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church on Friday, March 24th with visitation beginning at 10am and the service at 11am.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to the Happy Class at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church, a ministry for adults with special needs that is near and dear to the Hatcher family.
