His Life

Pickett, James also known as “J.P.”, “Wicked Pickett”, “Muff”, and because of his generosity, “Dollar General”, 56, was born in Union Springs, Alabama on April 6, 1958 to Annie Laura Biggers, and the late Fred Pickett. 


James grew up in Lompoc, CA by way of Miami, FL. He was educated in the Lompoc Unified School District attending Cabrillo Sr. High, where he played football, and received his diploma from Maple High. As an adult James lived in the states of Texas, Florida, and Arizona before settling in Alabama. Working construction by trade, James specialized in dry wall/ceiling carpentry until his health started to fail him. James had many friends and family who loved him for who he was, he wasn’t perfect, but he was loved.



Other than his father, James was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henderson and Annie Biggers and Thelma Pickett; his uncle, Roy Biggers and nephew, Marcus Dawkins.

James leaves to cherish his memory his loving, caring, and devoted mother, Annie Laura Farrell; and step-father, Danny Joseph Farrell; three sons, Michael (Deniquwa) Edwards, Houston, TX, James (Meia) Taylor, and Joseph Taylor, Bay Town, TX; one brother, Tony Cornell (Phyllis) Pickett, Tucson, AZ; three sisters, Darnita Quen (Charlie, Jr.) Jackson, Buena Vista, GA and Sherri Lynn Farrell, Union Springs, AL; and  step-sister, Stephanie Farrell, San Diego, CA; five grandchildren, the twins Alexus and Shannon, Joseph Jr., Justice and Jerreal; eleven nieces and nephews, Chivon, Roseann, Andree’, Charles III, Nikki, Chavonne, Domonique, LaKisha, Iree, Sage and Kayden; five uncles, Henderson (Dot) Biggers, Arthur (Catherine) Biggers, John (Nancy) Biggers, Jack Biggers and Robert Pickett; four aunts, Pearl (Joe) Rogers, Savannah Lee, Evelyn Oliver and Jean Biggers; three very close cousins whom he grew up with, Terry (Francine) White, Ronnie (Paula) and Brian Christopher Rogers, a close friend, Joanne Allums; along with a host of cousins, great nieces, nephews and friends.

The staff of Carter Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of the late Mr. James Pickett and join the family in an extreme expression of gratitude for the care and support extended to them during the illness and demise of their precious loved one.
