James (Jim) Thomas Harper Jim’s life began on December 1, 1949 in Dothan, AL. Born to Luther and Louise Burkett Harper, he returned to his Creator on December 19, 2020. Jim grew up on Tom’s Bayou in Valparaiso, FL, and graduated from Niceville H.S. and Mercer University, then earned his Master’s degree in business from Columbus State University in GA. The bulk of his career was dedicated to serving others in the field of mental health, where he went from working on the wards, to administration, to owning his own development and psychiatric hospital management firm, Reliant Health Care. Jim also had a wide variety of other interests including golf, investing, travel, reading, wine collecting, fishing, hunting, music, and was an Eagle Scout; but he loved his family best. Left missing him most is Nancy, his wife of 47 years, and sons Jamie (Tammy), and Eric (Jen), and three who called him G-Daddy: Isaiah, Eloise and Andrew. He is also survived by his sister, Luanne Elliott and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jim was a man of faith, and was an active member of the Emmaus Community, and Riverchase Methodist Church where he often taught Bible studies. A Celebration of Life service is planned for the summer of 2021, and memorials may be made to Riverchase United Methodist Church or Mercer University.

Professional services entrusted to W. E. Lusain Funeral Home of Birmingham, AL.
