This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, James Lovejoy, 72, born on July 2, 1944 and passed away on June 29, 2017. We will remember him forever.

James W. Lovejoy, 72 of Buffalo Grove IL, died Thursday, June 29th at JourneyCare Foundation in Glenview, IL.

A memorial/celebration service will occur on Saturday, July 15th at Willow Creek South Lake in Lincolnshire at 2:30PM.

Jim was born July 2nd, 1944 in Decatur, IL, the son of Walter and Margaret Lovejoy.  He was the proud father of 2 sons and even prouder grandfather of 5 grandkids and a grandbeagle.  He served in the US Air Force as a Lt. Col., was a passionate skier, faithful parishioner at Willow Creek Church, and a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Surviving are his sons, Scott (Jamie), and Eric (Candice), and grandkids; Casey, Connor, Gavin, Kyleigh, and Preston.

Our condolences to the entire Lovejoy family. My most vivid memories of Jim are hanging out during parties at Eric and Candi's. He was always friendly, willing to talk about anything, and made you feel welcome even when he did not know you well. We talked about many things, and it was apparent how deeply Jim cared about his children, grandchildren (and dogs!) as he often talked about them (as any proud father/grandfather would!). In our conversations I found a trait that I admired - that even when life presented challenges he would calmly take things in stride - like when we discussed the time his house flooded. The serenity he exhibited is something I greatly respected and I try to replicate in my life.

Our sympathy to Eric, Candi, Casey, Connor and Scott, Jamie, and family. Having known Jim for over 20 years, we have attended many family functions and special occasions together. Cal and Jim were both in the military around the same time and enjoyed sharing some of their experiences and trying to solve the world's problems. We will miss seeing Jim at the holiday parties and family get-togethers in the future.

Our deepest sympathies to Eric, Candi, Casey, Connor and the entire Lovejoy family. Jim was always great with our kids and the grandkids. Smiling, playing, laughing with all of them at the family parties. He raised a wonderful family and will be very missed. We hope you all find peace in the happy memories and know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

I have known Jim since high school but had gotten to know him better this past year through emails. I was so sorry to hear of the pain he was going through and tried to raise his spirits somewhat. His faith helped him tremendously. He told me he was ready to go. He was finally at peace with it and he fought a valiant battle. He loved his children and grandchildren so much  Bless your family.

I got to know Jim at Willow South Lake when we were on the counting team. He had a great passion for aviation, which we enjoyed discussing. He talked of his plans to take it up as a hobby, which sadly did not come to fruition. I liked him so much in the short time I got to know him. I so enjoyed talking to him, and thought I would be getting to know him better. My condolences to the family and I pray to God for blessings on his soul.

I came to know Jim through the small group thru WSL. He was such a nice man and Christian. I came to respect him well but was heartbroken with all he was going through. I offer my condolences to his family and am sorry for their loss. But with our faith, we know he is in a better place and without the pain he suffered.
