James T. Mayfield, age 66, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2017, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on December 3, 1950, in Nashville Tennessee, to his parents James Mayfield and Clara Jackson. He studied Mortuary Science at San Antonio College and served as a Master Sergeant in the United States Airforce (honorably discharged). He took numerous journeys to the Indian Ocean, Red Sea, China Sea, Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico with related travels and adventures in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Caribbean. He retired after 24 years and continued to serve the community at his neighborhood H-E-B for another 24 years. James enjoyed music and was a student member of the band at Pearl High School in Nashville, Tennessee. He was a history and art enthusiast, and he accumulated a collection of historical and abstract paintings that he produced himself, drawing inspiration from films, literature, museums, and his own creativity. He professed faith in Jesus Christ and often preached the gospel with strangers. James, a loved husband and father, was a man of honor and integrity, with a sense of humor that will be remembered and passed down for generations to come.


He was preceded in death by his parents, James Mayfield Sr. and Clara Jackson; sisters, Bernice Brown and Lura Mae Brown; and brother, Brown. 


James is survived by his wife of 23 years, Maria S. Mayfield; his children, Andre Mayfield, Julian Alse Mayfield, Michelle Alse Mayfield, Clara Mayfield, VanJames Mayfield, and Joslynn Mayfield; and grandson, Jerome Mayfield.
