A friend for life
Jan has always been generous with his time, knowledge and resources in helping his colleagues and friends. Jan was there for me during my darkest hours and thru the many trials and tribulations in life. i feel fortunate to have an opportunity to work side by side with Jan, it was definitely an opportunity of a lifetime to work with an engineer of his caliber.
Going out for dim sum at lunch was our favorite thing to do during his retirement years. Jan was quite adventurous in trying new dim sum dishes although I was unable to get him to eat chicken feet. We would fight over who gets the check because we can’t seem to remember who paid last time. Jan looked forward to eating tree riped persimmons from our tree every October and would eat 6 or 7 in one sitting. He also loved the sugar coated dry fruits every February during Chinese New Year. Every January, he would bring his laptop over and copy TurboTax and always make an extra copy for me in case I lose the original. He would do his taxes first and share with me new ways to save on taxes using TurboTax. I have always been inspired by Jan’s ultra simple life and how little he needed to be content.
Jan, I am sorry I was not there for you in your darkest hour and you didn’t get to see Erik one last time, you would have been a proud Dad.
