Biography

March 26, 2019

Mrs. Janet Alero Ohiwerei nee Okorodudu was born at Abeokuta, Ogun State on the 1st of September 1943 to Chief Alfred Omaretseyinosa Esimajuorono Okorodudu and Mrs. Ileola Okorodudu. Chief Okorodudu was a civil engineer in the civil service and public works Department in charge of road construction in many parts of the western region and the middle belt of Nigeria. He was later a District officer in various locations in the south west, including Ondo where he met one of his future wives, Ileola.

During her time in Ibadan, she had met a jovial young man, Felix Aizebeoje Omoikhoje Ohiwerei, who was working for Nigerian Breweries Limited and stationed in Benin where Mrs. Ohiwerei spent her holidays with her parents who were then stationed there. A close friendship developed and by the time she was embarking on her post graduate degree she sailed to meet her now fiancee who was at this time redeployed to London. Almost a year after their engagement, Felix and Janet were married on the 17th of December 1966 in London with a few family members and friends in attendance, their traditional wedding having been held earlier in Nigeria, with Felix elder brother, Tunde, standing in for him.

After the couple returned to Nigeria in 1967 at the start of the civil war and took up residence in Adelabu, Surulere where they began to raise a family, with two girls and three boys born over there next eight years.

Condolence - Farewell to Elder Mrs. Ohiwerei

On behalf of my family and the North America Operations of RCCG, I express sincere condolences to the nuclear and extended families, and other loved ones, including the ecclesiastical family. The loss of a loved one is never desirable, and the passing of Mummy Ohiwerei is a heavy burden on our hearts. Words fail at moments like these. We choose to surrender to the will of our Sovereign God with heavy hearts and with the assurance of seeing Elder (Mrs.) Ohiwerei again on that glorious morning.

In 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14, the Apostle Paul exhorts us “…not to be ignorant…about those who fall asleep [in death], that you may not grieve [for them] as the rest do who have no hope [beyond the grave]. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will also bring with Him through Jesus those who have fallen asleep [in death].”

We can therefore celebrate a fruitful life and the worthy legacy she has left behind. She was a very loving, affectionate, and steadfast woman, wife, mother, sister, and friend; a dedicated worshipper and an active RCCG chorister.  We will be strong in the LORD and in the power of His might, encouraging ourselves in the Spirit of His Peace and fortitude. May the memories of her joyous disposition, strength and love for Christ bring comfort to us all, in Jesus’ most precious and matchless Name!

Yours in the LORD’s Service,

Pastors (Drs.) James & Manita Fadel

Always with open arms

April 8, 2019

Auntie Jane was just a pillar and a fountain of love. Her home was always open to one and all. If you were passing through or staying you would be well fed and cared for just like her own children. As a very young child I didn’t know the difference between her children and other relatives staying at her house. She treated all of us the same. Now that she is gone I pray for that same love and compassion to comfort her family.

She always had her arms open and May The Lord open his arms to you as well and welcome you. You were a true servant and you did your part.

I love you and May The Lord Bless your sweet soul.

Semi girl.

So dear a mother and a friend of God

I knew Mummy ever before I dreamt of joining the RCCG national mass choir at shekinah night where she will always be given an opportunity to sing at least 1 or 2 hymns and she sings it passionately, she loves hymns and it's shows in her attitude that she really loves God, she is down to earth and very humble..

Even at her age and status she still find time to come to the RCCG National mass choir rehearsals which is an all night rehearsals ..

She has gone to be with the lord, it's a loss for us but a gain to Heaven..

I love you ma
