Jane Urban Dolan was born on April 28, 1960 in Pierre, South Dakota to Cleo and John Urban, cattle ranchers from Presho, South Dakota. Jane had a smile that no one could forget and grew up in a very close family with two sisters, Dana and Alane and an older brother Russ.

After graduating from Lyman High School Jane enrolled at South Dakota State University in Brookings where she received her degree in 1983 in Home Economics. Jane had a great time in college as did most people. Everyone loved Jane and Jane loved everyone.

During the winter of her Senior year Jane met Mark Dolan. They continued to date and after graduation they both moved to Iowa to begin their careers. Mark was an Engineer in Waterloo and Jane was an Interior Designer in Cedar Rapids. After a few years they decided to get married. They wed in Waterloo on August 1, 1986. They lived in a small town midway between the two cities. Jane was well known for her annual Super Bowl parties. They were legendary. Jane was such a fantastic cook! Everyone looked forward to them.

After nine years in Waterloo, Mark received an opportunity for advancement with an engineering company in Alabama so they moved to Birmingham in December of 1992 and have lived here ever since. Jane immediately was hired by one of the best furniture stores in the state where she truly met some of her dearest friends. Jane very much enjoyed her time working at this store but decided to retire to spend more time with her husband in 2010.

Jane absolutely loved life. She loved to travel and was especially fond of the beaches in Alabama and Ft. Myers Beach and her house on Medicine Creek in South Dakota.

On January 11th at high noon Calamity Jane died.

In lieu of flowers, Mark requests any donations be made to Best Friends Animal Society at bestfriends.org.
