Her Life

God Brings Janet Home

June 17, 2011

Janet Gulley was a loving wife and mother of 4 when she passed away on December 24, 2006. She attended Auburn University where she met her husband, Scott Gulley. They had four children: Hope, Karel, Allan, and Joy. When she passed away, Hope was 13, Karel was 11, Allan was 9, and Joy was 7. Janet was a speech therapist before she became a mom and she also enjoyed, cooking, baking, reading, singing, playing guitar, and spending time with her family. She was passionate about her family, friends, neighbors, and most importantly her Lord and Savior.

Janet's life was one that will always be remembered. Her goal was to continually strive after Christ and teach others about Him as well which she suscessfully accomplished while raising her children. She had always been someone who loved life, enjoyed her friends, and always was smiling and laughing. When she first recieved the news that she had Breast Cancer, she and everyone else were shocked and scared. Although, she did not use her cancer as an excuse to not work hard or to be angry. She was still the same wife, daughter, mother, and friend that she had always been. As her daughter, I can tell you that she very rarely get angry or impatient with us. She always told us, "A gentle answer turns way wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." She displayed everyday even when she felt awful and tired. When news came that she was in remission, we were all overjoyed and thankful that God had healed her and she would be with us longer. However, months later the news that her cancer had returned made everyone discouarged again. This time, she was told she would have a few months to live. Janet, just like always, still glowed and smiled each day. Eventually she became weak and couldn't do much of anything but she still continued to love each of her children and husband. During this time, as hard as it was for her, she encouraged everyone with Scriptures. She drew closer to her heavenly Father and then he took her home to live with him forever!

The life Janet lived should be an example to everyone who knew her because of her passionate love for Christ. No matter what trial or difficulty came her way, she viewed it as a chance to strengthen her relationship with Christ. She left a legacy for her friends and family that will be rememberd and cherished forever.
