Her Life

A native of Hartsville, SC and the daughter of the late Luther and Mozell Sails Richardson, Mrs. Brown received her secular education in the schools of Darlington County, graduating with the 1938 Class of Butler High School. She went on to receive her Bachelors Degree from Benedict College and her Masters Degree from Columbia University. Further studies were done at Temple and Columbus State Universities. For some 40 years plus, she taught in the Muscogee County School District, most of that time at William H. Spencer High School. She was a very faithful and devout member of First African Baptist Church, where she had been active with the Deaconess Ministry, Esther Missionary Circle, Smithsonian and Voice of FAB Choirs, Crisis Closet and as an advisor for the FABYO. Civic and Social organizations saw her serve as a Teen Advisor for Jack and Jill of America, Golden Soror of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, charter member of Mr. and Mrs. Club, SABS Bridge Club, Retired Gals Social Club, Matrons and the Gracious Ladies of Georgia. She was a member of the GAE, MEA, NEA and the GRTA. She also volunteered as a Pink Lady at Midtown Medical Center. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved soulmate and husband, Simon Leon Brown and five siblings, Mansfield, James and Luther Richardson, Jr., Leona and Bernice Richardson.

Surviving are her loving and devoted children, Crystal Brown and Daryl K. Brown(Radhia); three adoring grandchildren, Kelsey, Malcolm and Jordan; her goddaughter, Sharon Jamison; loving nieces and nephews to include Carolyn Marine; and a host of other relatives and dear friends to include a devoted caregiver, Albert Durham.
