Jean E. Smith, age 84, born on April 18, 1930, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2014.
“When someone becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure”

Mom I love you.  My fondest memories of you are feeling loved and safe in your arms; holding your grandson then great-granddaughter for the first time; at the beach with you, daddy, Jeanne and me; toasting to opening the Villas shore house with Cosmo’s, wheatables, and port wine cheddar cheese; being at that same house filled to the brim with our family around you; watching dolphins at Cape May Beach; and pouring your doctor ordered Taylor Port wine before going to bed.  Just thinking of you and the many memories make me smile.  Your faith and love of God inspires me.  The gift of creativity is seen through your talent of crocheting, knitting, needlepoint, sewing and oil painting.  Tenderly you took care of my sister when she was very ill.  The sun rises and sets around your grandson and great-granddaughter and you spoil them terribly.  Warmly you welcomed your new granddaughter and son-in-law into your heart and life including our niece, nephew, sister and husband.  You are a second mother to your nieces, along with their families, they simply adore you.  You have accepted me for who I am and love me unconditionally.  You’ve had many hardships in your life but you have accepted it all with ease and grace. You are loved dearly by all who know you and will be remembered as being a sweet and fun-loving person who brought joy to everyone who knew you and touching many lives with your kindness.  Your legacy is the imprint you have made in the hearts of all these people with you gracious gentle nature and those that have the honor of knowing you are better for it.  Quietly you have been a part of everyone’s life that you love and cherish as the matriarch of the family, loving wife, my beautiful mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and sister.  I will keep you in my heart and will miss you until I see you again.

Jean is survived by her daughter; Carol Bott, son-in-law; Edward Bott, grandson; Edward Johnson, granddaughter; Lisa Jones, great-granddaughter; Amy McGinnis-Johnson, nieces and husbands; Patty and Terry Santovito, Linda and Dave Burton, Barbara and Jay Schiller, Nancy and Tim Grow, Sharon and Dave Sutton, Melody Monahan.

She is predeceased by her husband; Edward Smith, daughter, Jeanne Ottinger, parents; Jenny and Francis Monahan, and her siblings; Francis (Frank), Catherine (Kitty), Patricia (Patty), Martin (Marty).
